I like both (sorry, that's not very helpful is it?)

I'd go for the one you like tbh.

alexander but shortened to alex or sandy-xander sounds pretentious.

MrsMattie · 14/09/2008 12:32

I love Theo and I like Alex / Alexander, but I have to be honest - Xander is poncy. Like people called Christopher who shorten it to Topher. Nah.

NomDePlume · 14/09/2008 12:32

I like both long versions, but much, much much prefer the shortening Theo to Xander

muggglewump · 14/09/2008 12:34

I like Theo and Xander, not hugely keen on the long versions of either but then I'm not keen on giving kids short versions of names on their BC's so really I'm no help at all

PavlovtheCat · 14/09/2008 12:35

Xander from Buffy - don't like it.

Theo is nice.

serenity · 14/09/2008 12:36

Xander's not poncy, it might be slightly geeky and Buffylike, but not poncy

I heart Xander (I quite heart Topher too, but then I'm a fan of That 70's Show and Topher-as-Venom too!)

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/09/2008 12:36

don't like Xander, it's a bit wanky but love, love, love Theo as it is ds' name.Alexander in full is good though.

DaisySteiner · 14/09/2008 12:37

Alexander (don't want Theodore becoming too common!)

MrsMattie · 14/09/2008 12:39

To my ear, Xnader is uber poncy. It's trying too hard to be different.

MrsMattie · 14/09/2008 12:39

Xander, even

serenity · 14/09/2008 12:40

to MrsMattie

falcon · 14/09/2008 12:48

I love Theo.

debzmb62 · 14/09/2008 12:55

i like both but alexsander could it not shortend to alex and not xander ! mind you i do like theo to

debzmb62 · 14/09/2008 12:56

sorry alexander

Megglevache · 14/09/2008 12:58

Theo Walcott is set to become a huge star.

His name will top the most popular boys names in the next few years and will be as common as Jack/Daniel and Josh. I guarantee it or I will eat my hat.

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/09/2008 14:15

am sure you are right there Megglevache - I want it known that I picked ds' name 11 years ago, long before it got so popular !

mybumpsaboy · 14/09/2008 18:02

lol yeah that's a v good point about theo walcott!!

I'd be shortening alexander to xander as two of my best friends are called Alexandra, both known as 'Alex' so to me it feels like a girls' name

Megglevache · 14/09/2008 18:54

Good because my hat is rather chewy.

Mind you, I don't know too many baby Waynes, Dwights or Franks

But those names aren't as nice as the ones mentioned. There's a reason those names and popular...they're really nice.

Megglevache · 14/09/2008 18:55

MaryAnn, your Theo is gorgeous. He is going to be such a fox. I hope you have braced yourself for it.

ScummyMummy · 14/09/2008 18:56

Theodore- not for me but Theo's ok

Alexander- good name but Xander utterly awful imo

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/09/2008 19:25

aw thanks Megglevache !

Heated · 14/09/2008 19:28

I love Alexander but really dislike Xander, have never met a normal or pleasant one yet! ...So on that basis I'd go for Theo.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 14/09/2008 19:28

biased - I have an Alexander - shortened to Xander rather than Alex - definately not a poncy family
