What do we think? I don't like any of the longer names for Nellie so it would have to be just Nellie. I'm not keen on Ellie either.

don't like it, sorry

Sidge · 08/09/2008 13:36

The Elephant.

Sorry, that's the first thing that came to mind.

midnightexpress · 08/09/2008 13:36

Elephant

midnightexpress · 08/09/2008 13:36

Though I love Nell (which is short for Eleanor I think)

PonderingThoughts · 08/09/2008 13:38

Agree with Midnight Express (both posts)

snooks · 08/09/2008 13:38

Well, I like it but unfortunately you would (or she would) have all those "off she went with a trumpety-trump, trump, trump, trump" connotations (sp)

Fimbo · 08/09/2008 13:38

It was my gran's name. Horrible name

MrsMattie · 08/09/2008 13:38

I like Nell.I know two - one is an Ellen and one is a Penelope.

snooks · 08/09/2008 13:38

yes Nell is lovely I agree.

LilRedWG · 08/09/2008 13:41

DD is Eleanor and my sister calls her Nellie. It's okay, but I prefer Nell.

Botbot · 08/09/2008 13:52

I'd spell it Nelly myself. It's the French way.

VictorianSqualor · 08/09/2008 13:55

My friend's daughter is called Aneila, nn Nell.
I love it.
However, Nelly made me think of the Elephant.

DaphneMoon · 08/09/2008 14:06

Nelly is short for Helen.

branflake81 · 08/09/2008 15:13

It's quite common in France and short for Nelida.

thumbsucker · 08/09/2008 15:18

Yes, but Jesus is common in Spain...

Sputnik · 08/09/2008 15:20

Nell is lovely. Nellie not so keen on.

Tigerschick · 08/09/2008 15:26

Another vote for Nell rather than Nellie.

halogen · 08/09/2008 16:57

Nell is lovely and Nellie is sweet for a little girl. I'd go for Eleanor or similar and use Nellie/Nell for a shortening, personally.

AuntieMaggie · 08/09/2008 17:12

I like it. A friend's little girl is called nellie - think it's really sweet.

What about Nuala or Fionnuala with Nelly for short?

Not keen on Nellie.

MerryMarigold · 08/09/2008 17:41

No, a kitchen servant.

Also an elephant. My name is Eleanor and I was still nicknamed Nellie the Elephant despite not even being fat!

3andnomore · 08/09/2008 21:00

don't like Nellie so much, but think Nell is a gorgeous name
