Are there any other shortened versions of Madeleine apart from Maddy/Maddie?

will in the middle of it is 'adele' which is a lovely name

PuppyMonkey · 08/09/2008 13:26

I've got a Maddie... she is 11 now and shortening even further to Madz and Mad.

What's the matter with Maddie anyway? Fab name!

Ellbell · 08/09/2008 13:29

I call mine Maddie sometimes, but also, more often, Madge or Magic. Sometimes (I teach Italian) I also call her Maddalena, but obviously that's not really 'short'! Occasionally I call her by her actual name.

lotsoflovelychocolate · 08/09/2008 13:29

I like Maddy - I was just wondering if there were any others.

I call mine Madelena also Ellbell. And Maddie Moo Moo. I'm hoping in later years she's might shorten it to Lena.
What are you other children called, I'm searching for names to go with Madeleine.

VictorianSqualor · 08/09/2008 13:35

I know a Della who is Madeleine.

Ellbell · 08/09/2008 13:48

indiechick... I have a dd2 who is Ellen (Ellbell or Elsie for short - never Ellie, don't know why, don't dislike Ellie but she isn't one and it weirds me out when people occasionally call her Ellie!). We have an unusual surname to take into account too.

Ellbell · 08/09/2008 13:49

In the first series of The West Wing there was a Mandy who was actually called Madeleine.

Fimbo · 08/09/2008 13:51

I know a Madeleine - shortened to Lainey.

Ds is at school with two - one pronunced Mad-a-lin, the other Mad-a-lane. Gets confusing!

prettygirls · 08/09/2008 13:59

Mine is called Mad or maddie moo moo. However this is now being shortened to Moo. If this sticks she'll hate me when she's older!

WipingAssAndTakingNames · 08/09/2008 15:24

I have a friend called Magda, whose name is Madeleine. Madeleine derives from Magdalen (as in Mary), so it makes sense. I think Magda is lovely.

You could also shorten to Milly, Lena, Della or Madda.

halogen · 08/09/2008 17:10

Della or Delly would be very sweet.

Flier · 08/09/2008 17:13

Lenny

pointydog · 08/09/2008 17:27

Is Lainey short for it? I like the name Lainey.

lastboxoftampons · 08/09/2008 17:56

Ellbell - my Italian great-grandmother was Maddelena I always thought it was very pretty!

pointydog · 08/09/2008 18:07

that would be 'ell's bells

pagwatch · 08/09/2008 18:11

My Madeleine is Moo or Moochie but only at home.
Age 6 no one outside home shortens it and she remains Madeleine.

Personally not terribly keen oon Maddie but hey .....I am expecting it at some stage.

ChippyMinton · 08/09/2008 18:18

Madachinno
Or Laney

Mind you we have enough trouble agreeing on the end sound - len, lane, line, leen.

frazzledoldbag34 · 08/09/2008 18:42

Madge? quite cool I reckon

Spillage21 · 08/09/2008 18:44

ethanchristopher · 13/09/2008 21:51

i think people are just making up names now

alistair7 · 14/09/2008 17:27

Hi All, I am pregnant and due twins on 12th Dec 08, I am struggling with names and if I have a girl, I would really love to call her Maddie Jane but am worried as alot of people have said I shouldn't have the name Maddie because of Madeleine dissapearing, what do you think? is it a bad omen?

nuthacuppatea · 14/09/2008 21:41

Most definitely not! There are to many Madeleines in the world for bad things to happen to! It's a lovely name and the name of my 2 1/2 yr old. We call her Maddy (quite folky i think) or Maddy Mo (not Moo!). Sometimes just Mo. If you like it go for it.
