Magnus or Barnaby?

Not due for a long while but at present my fav. is Barnaby and my partner's is Magnus.
Magnus is not a name I would usually go for as I tend to lean towards softer sounding names, but for him to suggest anything is a miracle. Which name do Mumsnetters prefer?

Magnus, sorry

schneebly · 04/09/2008 23:27

I prefer Magnus too

schneebly · 04/09/2008 23:28

Barnaby just makes me think of that bear with the annoying voice!

harpomarx · 04/09/2008 23:30

I have never done this before...

but no to both.

Magnus is, as you say, 'hard' and irretrievably linked to Magnus Magnusson in the poor marx brain. Barnaby is just too cute for me.

magnus

SmugColditz · 04/09/2008 23:35

No.

expatinscotland · 04/09/2008 23:35

Please say this is for a pug puppy and not a child

harpomarx · 04/09/2008 23:36

what's with all the pro-Magnus comments? Am I compleeeetely out of touch with current name sentiment?

combustiblelemon · 04/09/2008 23:36

Barnaby.

emkana · 04/09/2008 23:37

I only voted for Magnus because Barnaby is completely out of the question.

Megglevache · 04/09/2008 23:38

Magnus. A brill name

Megglevache · 04/09/2008 23:39

A rather lovely Mnetter's ds is called Magnus- she is verrrrrrrrry cool.

friendly · 04/09/2008 23:47

Barnaby or Barney definitely, unless you are norwegian.

Magnus - it is a very strong name.
Another variant is Magnar.

Mimsy2000 · 05/09/2008 08:43

magnus

barnaby=barnaby bear from cbeebies

Botbot · 05/09/2008 08:45

I love Magnus. But I have been banned from using it for any future dses, because of the Sportacus connection.

Ronaldinhio · 05/09/2008 08:49

Magnus is great

Egg · 05/09/2008 08:52

I much prefer Barnaby, but would prob refer to him as Barney most of the time.

Also think of Magus Magnusson (what were his parents thinking, with a surname like that???) when I hear Magnus. Also makes me think of Magners Cider .

Must be honest, I would not choose either but do like Barnaby.

umberella · 05/09/2008 08:53

Magnus

I know a GORGEOUS Magnus

NotQuiteCockney · 05/09/2008 09:45

Magnus Magnusson's father was called Magnus - that's why his surname (patronymic really) is Magnusson. Actually 'Magnus Magnusson' is a pretty common name in Iceland.

The Sportacus thing is unfortunate. I don't mind either name, tbh.

kittywise · 05/09/2008 09:47

I don't like either sorry
