Hum de hum, it is me again - just want to test this one out.

Love Francesca, love Cesca for a younger girl and think Frankie is cute when you are a teenager.

Goes well with our surname and DD1 and DD2's names.

Mumsnet general opinion... ?

Yes Lulumama, I did tell you we were definitely going for Louisa Hope but I may have changed my mind (or DH has )!

I've always loved it, but I think I'll be in the minority.

JackieNo · 31/08/2008 20:53

I like it a lot.

pgwithnumber3 · 31/08/2008 20:53

I agree Janni. I think it is a pretty name though, can't see what is wrong with it!

I know a grown up Francesca and a little girl called Francesca, works well for both little girls and grown up IMO. If it was my name, I'd prefer Frankie as a grown up, not sure about Cesca, but love the long name and no doubt your DD would make her own decision on the shortened version eventually.

pgwithnumber3 · 31/08/2008 20:54

2 for it so far...

Yes, I would use the whole name but somewhere along the line it gets shortened. Really don't like Fran or Franny either. (sorry to any Frans on Mumsnet!)

francesca is lovely franny is dreadful

LittlePushka · 31/08/2008 21:03

Oh I am sorry pg with 3, but I think it is an awful name, it does not trip off the tongue easily and I agree wih sleepy cat that the diminutive forms are not great either!

I really like it.
And Frankie, Chessie etc are lovely too.
Might have to put it on my list for the next one....

Elkat · 01/09/2008 20:06

Agree with the others. I love Francesa and had it on my list, but ruled it out because I didn't like Fran as a nn, and it would be just my luck that DD would choose that as her preferred nn. But if you can live with all the potential nicknames, then it is a lovely name.

TheNaughtiestGirlIsaMonitor · 01/09/2008 20:10

I like Frankie for a boy. REally love that. But not as very keen on Francesca for a girl. Fran, Fanny, Cheska. NO. It's not awful though, I just wouldn't choose it myself.

Minniethemoocher · 01/09/2008 20:16

Not my choice, they will always be called Fran, which sounds really old fashioned and horrible.

Sorry!

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/09/2008 20:48

I really like it. Was on my list, but had to remove it as I wanted to shorten it to Frankie but dh wanted to shorten it to Fran, and neither of us liked the other!

UpSinceCrapOClock · 01/09/2008 20:56

Love Francesca. I think it's one of those names that people know, but that there won't be heaps of.

I once knew a Francesca who had Effie as a nn, which I also like.

Heated · 01/09/2008 20:57

Love it

I disagree Minnie with a Francesca being called Fran. I only think you end up being called Fran if you let people and I WOULD NOT let people call my baby Fran!

Love Francesca!

WendyWeber · 01/09/2008 21:22

I have a Frances, which is a lovely grown-up sort of name IMO & I never heard of a Frances who wasn't a strong & independent kind of woman.

Mine was Frannie (or sometimes Frannie-Annie) as a little girl, & is Fran in her 20s (but still sometimes Frannie-Annie ) - she was never a Frankie, although we know a younger Frances who is.

WendyWeber · 01/09/2008 21:23

Why do you all dislike Fran or Franny so much?

noonki · 01/09/2008 21:40

beautiful name
