I really like it. Well done! It is unusual but well known iyswim. Very pretty. I think it's Irish (not sure), but not so much that you would have to be from there.

hughjarssss · 31/08/2008 12:49

I love it.
We had real problems picking a girls name for dd as we couldn't find one we liked. We ended up gpoing with a family name.

Lorna is the first girls name that I really like.

Its now top of my list for next time

who's 'the author'? I know 2 Lorna's quite different in age though - one is Irish and one is Afro Caribbean!

i like Lorne but that is a boys name so not much use to you

i prefer laura

MerryMarigold · 31/08/2008 13:17

oh didn't know he was first to use...but that's historical enough, innit? I see it was first published in 1869, so it's about 150yrs old as a name, which is good enough I think! History is a moving process.

3andnomore · 31/08/2008 13:19

like Lorna

hughjarssss · 31/08/2008 13:19

Agree MerryMarigold

ThinWhiteDuchess · 31/08/2008 13:24

My sister's middle name and she hates it. Not too keen myself tbh.

hw2004 · 31/08/2008 13:57

I think it's very underused and very pretty.

seb1 · 31/08/2008 14:05

Heather and Lorna are quite Scottish names are you after a Scottish name?

flyinglizzards · 31/08/2008 14:11

Wendy - also a created name that first appeared in James Banie's Peter Pan.

I like Lorna much more that the similar popular names like laura and lauren.

It is ageless which I like

Flamesparrow · 31/08/2008 14:21

Downmarket????

I like Lorna

ThinWhiteDuchess · 31/08/2008 14:24

Agree with you Flame for questioning the downmarket comment! My parents would be aghast to think any of our names was thought to be 'downmarket'!! lol.

Kbear · 31/08/2008 14:44

I like it. My friend has a Lorna who is five. She is Scottish and the accent makes it I think.

Elasticwoman · 31/08/2008 14:55

Lorna Luft - daughter of whatsername in Wizard of Oz.
Lorna Sage - now deceased, writer of acclaimed autobiography
My cousin Lorna - least said the better .

Elasticwoman · 31/08/2008 14:55

Judy Garland. Knew it would come to me.

LaylaandSethsmum · 31/08/2008 15:07

I'm surprised how many of you like Lorna, I'm a Lorna and have to say I didn't like it growing up, I was normally called Laura and constantly had to spell it , would you believe, and still do!
FIL still ,after knowing me for 13 yrs ,spells it LAUNA !!!

I've had Launa, Lawna , Lorner ....

cyteen · 31/08/2008 15:10

I don't like it, never have. Also it reminds me of someone at my secondary school who stole my friend's coursework and tried to pass it off as her own, so double no.

pamelat · 31/08/2008 17:56

My friend has just called her dd Lorna.
It really surprised everyone as its such a "grown up" name.

beanieb · 31/08/2008 17:57

You could use the Welsh 'Lona' too

piratecat · 31/08/2008 18:03

i LIKE that name.

dinkymum · 31/08/2008 19:21

Love it, used to teach the sweetest little girl called Lorna which really helps with my positive feelings towards it too!

xx

AbbeyA · 31/08/2008 19:26
