I am eternally grateful to anyone who can be bothered to look at this...I am getting bored with it myself

DH and I have now reached a stalemate.
the only names we can agree on are Nancy and Lola.

neither of them really do it for me, but are the least awful of DH's choices and the only ones that he likes of my choices.

Is lola getting too popular now?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsMattie · 21/08/2008 15:38

Lola is very popular, I'd say, yes, but a great name. Also love Nancy.

maretta · 21/08/2008 15:41

I like all of your other suggestions. I still don't get why it's so bad to have a Freddie and a Florence. It's not even that way round on the label.

I liked Pearl too. DH did not.

Sympathies though. Our 3rd child, who was our first girl wasn't registered until the last possible day. I think girls names are so much harder.

floaty · 21/08/2008 15:57

If Flora is a problem re margarine ,what about Fleur.

mabel1973 · 21/08/2008 15:58

Maretta...that was my 1st baby name thread...! whether we should go for florence under the circumstances, most people on here and most of our friends agreed that we shouldn't because of Tesco.
however since then 2 friends have had babies called Florence, so that's put us off totally now!

I love Nancy but find Lola a bit sexual.

IF you go for Lola, could you put Paloma or Eloise on the bc?

LOVE Nancy though. In the same category (imo) I lke Dulcie, Polly, Edith, Sadie, Maggie, Lois.

hello

i like Lola but it does remind me of the song by the kinks which is about a transvestite called lola. If you can ignore that then i think its pretty
also like

Isla, Freya

tortoiseSHELL · 21/08/2008 17:05

Nancy is lovely.

Lila - what about putting an h on the end to be different from Kate Moss - Lilah is very pretty.

If you like 'older' names, what about Emmeline? Good suffragette connotations too!

loobylu3 · 21/08/2008 18:06

I like Nancy a lot more than Lola.

I will try to add a few more suggestions in 'old lady chic fashion.' Have posted a few before so excuse repeats. I like all of these:

Adelaide/ Ada
Alice
Amelia
Beatrix
Betsie/ Betty/ Bessy
Connie
Cecily/ Cecilia
Eve/ Evelyn
Eliza
Delilah
Faith
Harriet
Henrietta
Lydia
Maude
Maggie
Marianne
Matilda
Mary
Ma bel (still like this- sorry about you cat)
Olive
Rosalind/ Rosamund
Susanna
Theadora/ Dora
Viola

I especially love Alice, Eliza, Cecily, Olive, Maude, Matilda. Hope you find 'the one'!

ceeceeanne · 10/09/2008 19:19

millicent shortened to millie?
love this but doesnt go with my surname!

nancy is lovely and grows from childhood to suiting an adult
lola is nice too

annie? emmie? what about orla

frazzledoldbag34 · 10/09/2008 20:15

Dora?

Olivia (with Lola / Lollie / Livvy for short?)

Freya?

Topaz? (random, but I like it!)

I really like Lola though. I know a Lola who has a sister called Poppy. Lola is a better name than Poppy though IMO.

Nbg · 10/09/2008 20:21

Nancy is lovely. I'm personally not so keen on Lola as all I can think of is Charlie and Lola, but thats not exactly a bad thing is it.

My other favourite is Connie.

Doobydoo · 10/09/2008 20:23

Nancy is what ds2 wold have been called.I think Nancy is getting more popular than Lola though. But,it's your choice[obviously].Good luck.

WinkyWinkola · 10/09/2008 20:23

Nancy is great. Sassy and pretty.

If names being popular put you off, then don't use Lola. My DS has two in his group at nursery and we know another through a music class.

WinkyWinkola · 10/09/2008 20:24

Sadie?

SquidgesMum · 10/09/2008 21:22

Nancy, definitely, every time. A perfect name - you dh has excellent taste!

macaco · 11/09/2008 09:13

hmmmmmm. Lola is very popular and Dolores means pains..would put me off. Don't like Nancy at all, but no suggestions either I'm afraid. sorry.

Cies · 11/09/2008 09:18

Macaco, I was just going to point that out too!

Do you really want to give your daughter a name that means "pains"?

Nancy´s nice. My step-grandmother was a Nancy. She was very smart and glam.

rusmum · 11/09/2008 11:14

i liked tilly, and olive

seeker · 11/09/2008 11:18

Lola - doesn't everyone just think Charlie and Lola every time they hear it?

I like Nancy - I'm sure I read somewhere that it started as a nickname for Ann. Or did I make that up?

How about Stella?

ceeceeanne · 11/09/2008 19:04

yes i think nancy is a name for ann
i knoe an annie that got called nancy

SquidgesMum · 11/09/2008 21:31

Anne and Nancy are not related names! nancy is a name in its own right!

Spidermama · 11/09/2008 21:36

Both lovely. I know a lot of Lolas now though. I know one Nancy and she's about six months old.
