Dexter - final thoughts please

I know this name has been mentioned before but I am now down to the last six weeks and so have got to think about making a decision. Both dh and I love the name because we are fans of the tv series and so are finding it hard to be objective about the name. Some people we have mentioned the name to have laughed, some just hated it. Our only other name option is Harry, which I like but it just doesn't grab me the same as Dexter but I am concerned that my pregnant brain may make the wrong decision. I want some honest opinions please. What do you really think to the name Dexter? If you don't like it,why?

i LOVE Dexter, its my fictional ds3's name. Dex or Dexy for a nn is lovely too. Ilove it!

If you and your DH love it, then who cares what I think...

I don't like it sorry, I'm not keen on surnamey first names and I think it will date - a lot. I think Harry Dexter would be great though.

My DH said he had decided on Dexter. I told him to undecide.

It reminds me of Dexter Fletcher, the actor from press gang. Waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy back in the 80's when I was girl. I just cant shake the association.

Also we have seen the TV show and I dont think I could call a baby after a serial killer. I know it isnt real but still. IYKWIM.

It is a nice name though just wrong for me.

At the moment the name has strong connections to the tv series, some will love it for this reason, and others will hate it.

However the tv series will be long forgotton in a couple of years and with it your sons connection to it, so if you love the name go with your heart.

we seriously considered it for DS but decided it didn't feel right for us in the end.
i love the name though so i say go for it.

I know several middle aged men called Dexter. I don't like it at all, I'm afraid.

I really dislike it too (and it reminds me of Press Gang, I must be about your age ronshar!)

just wanted to add we ended up naming our son Maxwell - another murderer's name, a la the Beatles' song. It was a toss up between Max and Mack - also a murderer - "Mack the Knife."

I really like Dexter, but then I had a bit of a crush on Dexter Fletcher in Press Gang , and really wanted to be Julia Swahala (sp?).

I've not seen the serial killer programme so it doesn't have any negative connotations for me.

My DH doesn't like it at all though.

Was just about to say that i don't like the name Dexter when i opened disenchanteds photo - i've changed my mind now

I LOVE it! I have a Dexter & get many comments about it... the worst was "that's a very bold name..".

Most people think it's great, some think it's just another name... and it is.

(I originally wanted Rex but my husband said he'd never make it through school...he has a point so Dexter it was.)
Go with it if you love it.

We have a Dexter in our family and I love the name. I also love the tv series and fwiw although he is a serial killer he does have a social conscience

Also, Disenchanteds little Dexter would be enough to sway me.... Gorgeous
