Right then, Romilly or Veronica?

I love Romilly - only fly in the ointment is a place called Romiley which is nr Manchester, where my parents are (they are not IN Romiley but its a place about 10 miles away from them). I have a DD already, told them I'd considered Romilly and they were really not impressed by it!! However, we don't live there, and Milly or Romy gives good enough alternatives. My DH is the big fan of Veronica, and I like it too, I have canvassed opinon on the name on this forum b4 - the results of which were very mixed, which made my DH more keen, he reckons a name shouldn't be 'just ok - it should provoke a reaction!' ANYWAY - need help! Thanks.

Romilly over Veronica

Veronica is okaaaay but reminds me of Veruca

Romilly is really pretty but personally I'm a bit tired of Milly, though it's a pretty name. Every other baby I know seems to be Milly or Tilly

TigerFeet · 19/08/2008 12:58

Much prefer Romilly

sweetkitty · 19/08/2008 12:59

Romilly is beautiful prefer it over Veronica

branflake81 · 19/08/2008 13:53

Romilly, definitely. Veronica is awful. Sounds like she should be the head of the WI or something.

wessexgirl · 19/08/2008 13:54

Romilly is gorgeous; Veronica makes me thinks of verrucas.

Find a famous Romilly, then if people ask if she's named after the place you can say she was named after some famous feminist/scientist/peace worker (there must be one called Romilly)

youcannotbeserious · 19/08/2008 13:56

Romilly is lovely.

Veronica reminds me of Duck face from 4 weddings and a funeral.....

georgimama · 19/08/2008 13:56

Isn't Romilly a boy's name?

cyteen · 19/08/2008 13:56

I much prefer Veronica. Romilly is nice but a bit frilly for me.

PoorOldEnid · 19/08/2008 13:56

romilly is prettier

how about Devizes?

Like Romilly, but am heartily bored of Milly's - was saying last night to dh how glad I am we changed dd's name (she was Amelie for 2 hours) to avoid anymore blardy Millie-Tillys.
Veronica's a bit dull, imvho.

Romy7 · 19/08/2008 14:02

romilly, ha ha ha (see above!)

Romy7 · 19/08/2008 14:03

veronica's got a bit too much of the chocolate factory about it for my liking.

LadyThompson · 19/08/2008 14:32

What about Romola? You could still shorten to Romy and avoid Milly. There's an actress called Romola Garai.

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/08/2008 14:32

Romilly is pretty

Tortington · 19/08/2008 14:41

romilly - is silly
veronica - is ok - but ronnie as a nn - is uber cool for a girl me thinks

George Eliot wrote Romola - not a bad book, but not entirely sure about the name... i do like Romy though (bah humbug Custardo)

brimfull · 19/08/2008 14:52

romilly is nice-not keen on millie though

veronica-not keen at all

LongLiveCuckoo · 19/08/2008 14:53

Romilly is prettier. But it's very like Emily in my opinion.

Perhaps Rose Emily could be nnd Romilly?

Rosemary could be Romy for short.

LongLiveCuckoo · 19/08/2008 14:54

Ps there is a Romilly Weeks, newsreader. Romilly Street in W1 (I think) and there is a Mulberry handbag called The Romilly. So I think that means the name is on the up..

WinkyWinkola · 19/08/2008 14:54

Romilly is great. Romy for short? Milly is everywhere.

Veronica isn't my cup of tea. It's up there with Gloria. Makes me think of attention seeking, middle aged women with loud voices who wear a lot of make up and eat parma violets.
