What do people think of Toby or Tobias and which is best to go for?

I am really keen but DH says it's a cat's name - sigh. Then my dad said 'toby jug' and someone else said 'toby carvery'. Great!! LOL

my friends have a ds called Tobias and he is usually called Toby - so you get to use both ! nice name btw- I'd go for Tobias all the time

I wouldn't worry about 'toby jug' - how many children know what a toby jug is?

I like the name, but it's one of those names that seem more popular with mothers then fathers.

My little one is a Toby. I therefore love it.

I like Tobias but don't like Toby, so wouldn't use the name as it would inevitably get shortened.

I have a Toby, wouldn't even consider Tobias. TBH I am not totally sure about Toby (long story) but it is who he is now. Also not sure about Toby as an adult name rather than a little boy. Ah well...

I know a Tobias...he is very very posh, but very nice too!

Think I prefer Toby.

I know a Tobias and a Toby. Think I prefer Toby.

CS - the Toby I know is an adult, and it works fine on grown men .

Toby was on my list for DS originally. Removed because it reminded DH of his grandma's objectionable dog.

I'm umming and erring about Tobias, not sure about that one.

I really, really want it now but DH is having none of it - aaargh - he's driving me mad!!!

When's the baby due? Maybe you've got time to talk him round

Toby sounds v posh to me, and reminds me of labradors, I'm afraid. Quite like Tobias though, but expect it would get shortened, which would rule it out for me.

LOL at reminding you of labradors - dh says it's an animal name so you may be onto something!

My other name choice is sebastian or rory so must have a thing about posh names!!

my lo is called Toby - think its getting popular at mo, love the name, took a little while to grow on me as well, not keen on Tobias sounds a bit too posh

We've got a Tobias - in case he ever wants the posh grown-up version - but so far he's always (intentionally) been called Toby. So you can have your cake and eat it. Toby's in the top 50 names at the moment, but Tobias is still pretty unusual, although I know of another one born the same day as ds2 who only lives about 100 metres from us (also generally known as Toby)!

It is quite popular isn't it. By the time mine goes to school there will be 5 (that I know of) in our small (100 children) village school.
ds1 on the other hand, whose name was consistently top 5 when he was born, is the only one in his school.
Wierd.

Oddly, I know a Toby short for Anthony!
But I like Toby and Tobias, although I feel Tobias will get shortened to Toby regardless.
