Gabriel

Gabriel Alexander is my number one name (after Rowan but that doesn't go with our surname) for a boy, have loved it for a few years. DH likes it as well but whenever I mention it to anyone, they all think it is "gay" sounding.

Like Gabe for short as well.

What do you think?

Will it go with Grace and Maya?

I prefer Alexander but Gabriel is fine.

Prepare yourself for Angel Gabriel though.

JodieG1 · 05/08/2008 15:53

I adore that name and I think it will go perfectly with your other children's names. Grace and Maya are gorgeous names too.

We met a lovely lovely 3 year old on holiday called Gabe. I want dd to marry him. She couldn't get his name right though, and kept calling him Cake.

I like it though, it's a great name.

EffiePerine · 05/08/2008 15:54

like

tokentotty · 05/08/2008 15:54

I like it too and suggested it if this baby turns out to be a boy as expected. Got the same comments from DH regarding people taking the mickey at school etc with 'gay Gabe' taunts etc.

pgwithnumber3 · 05/08/2008 15:55

Alexander is soo popular around here though Collision, I love it but I already have a popular name in Grace and want something a bit different.

Thanks Jodie!

I met a lovely Gabe recently mrsbabook but he was older than 3, it is not as an uncommon name as I probably think!

Suppose kids will find anything to skit though won't they. I had Helen's Melons when I was young and because my hair was so white had "come-head (as in sperm!) and I survived!

I didn't like it but recently it's grown on me. Plus it sits nicely with your other two DC's names.
Lovely!
Hopefully he'll be an angelic baby!

pgwithnumber3 · 05/08/2008 16:00

frazzle, that is the problem, can you imagine if "Gabriel" turned out to be "Satan"! DD1 is Grace and she is so far from graceful it is untrue!

Yes like.

falcon · 05/08/2008 16:12

I love this name, it's one of my top 5 boys names.

I much prefer the full version though and not Gabe.

blissieblue · 05/08/2008 16:16

I like it - and love Gabe. It was one of my favourites but DH didn't want it because his step grandfather is Gabe. We called DS1 Sebastian instead.

Livvigirl · 05/08/2008 16:30

I really like it, it's different and sounds like that's what your after, don't worry what other people think it's what you like that matters - it's lovely.

woose · 05/08/2008 16:33

I love Gabriel. Would love it if DH would agree to a lovely name like that.

Love Gabriel. Bro's BF is Gabriel, never had a problem with teasing or bullying. My BF's son is also Gabriel, known as Gabe. Lovely.

stillstanding · 05/08/2008 16:53

I wouldn't call my own DS this but for some reason am a little impressed when others do ... Think it is a beautiful but brave name.

cyteen · 05/08/2008 16:55

It's lovely. My DP vetoed it as well, but I still love it.

ScummyMummy · 05/08/2008 16:57

agree with stillstanding. I really like Gabriel as a name. Would worry a bit that I would be bound to have a potato headed pudding faced baby who wouldn't suit the name though...

SorenLorensen · 05/08/2008 16:57

I liked it for ds2 (due on the 23rd December though actually arrived on the 7th) but dh absolutely hated it. The only RL one I've known was a girl - and yes she was Gabriel, not Gabrielle or Gabriella.

ThingOne · 05/08/2008 17:01

Love them both!

Mum2BabyRoo · 05/08/2008 17:17

Love the name!

girlsallaround · 05/08/2008 17:19

i love it sounds great!
gabe sounds great too, i also new an extremely handsome boy in college with that name,
and it goes v well with grace and maya (which are also lovely names!)

hw2004 · 05/08/2008 17:23

I really love it but wouldn't be brave enough to call my own child it iykwim. Everyone i mention it to says 'gay gabe' but I do think you can find something to mock in any name!!
