Gabriel

Gabriel Alexander is my number one name (after Rowan but that doesn't go with our surname) for a boy, have loved it for a few years. DH likes it as well but whenever I mention it to anyone, they all think it is "gay" sounding.

Like Gabe for short as well.

What do you think?

Will it go with Grace and Maya?

Fantastic name! Was on our shortlist, hubby liked it because he played Gabriel Oak and he's a nice character )

lottiejenkins · 05/08/2008 18:07

I love the name........ drawing raffle tickets???? Whats that all about????????

lunamoon2 · 05/08/2008 23:33

I love it and will call my next baby it ( providing it is a boy!!!)

we have a Gabriel. it's a lovely, lovely name, and Gabe is a cool shortening.
it is quite popular now though I think, keep coming across them

someone on here once described it as "gentle, yet handsome" which I think is lovely

chopchopbusybusy · 05/08/2008 23:42

I love the name Gabriel and it was on our short list 12 years ago, before it became a bit more popular. We had a girl, so didn't use it. I also love Alexander, but DH for some reason doesn't like it, although he likes Alex for a girl.

thisisyesterday · 05/08/2008 23:48

if anyone called my Gabriel "gay" I would probably laugh in their face and tell them not to be so bloody ignorant.

will be teaching ds2 to do likewise.

pgwithnumber3 · 06/08/2008 10:45

I am going to throw caution to the wind and probably go with my gut feeling if I have a boy and call him Gabriel. I think I will always wish I had if I don't.

Just need to find out what I am having now - it will be a girl though, I just know I am meant to have girls.

I'm not really keen on it. Sorry. I automatically think Angel Gabriel. And I think it sounds a bit of a girl's name .

Treeny · 06/08/2008 11:01

I love the name Gabriel - do go for it! It was my top choice of name for DD2, if she'd been a boy. Probably just as well she wasn't, as DH isn't keen and I'd have had to fight with him about it.

Yes. Am probably calling my baby Gabriel if it's a boy.

QQQ · 11/08/2008 21:41

Love Gabriel and Gabe, unfortunately dh won't entertain because of the "gay" thing, possible teasing etc, but if it was just me choosing I'd go for it!

Weegiemum · 12/08/2008 00:13

I think NO.

But I don't like unusual names, all my children have "Classic" names, and I would worry a LOT, as a secondary school teacher, about bullying when a teenager.

The image that comes into my head is a blonde little curly haired girl dressed in a net curtain with tinfoil wings saying "Fear not! I bring you glad tidings of great joy ....."

Boobz · 12/08/2008 09:16

It's hardly that unusual. Not as if it is Cougar or something. He won't be teased for being called Gabriel; I think he'll be proud of a different but strong name and he'll appreciate being different from all the Toms, Sams and Williams.

JuneBugJen · 12/08/2008 09:19

All the cool surfer kids down here are Gabriels (or Jagos). I think it is a lovely name and doubt he'll get teased about it.

We have one in our family so we couldn't use it.

I think it goes really well with your other names.

twinkle5 · 12/08/2008 09:32

I taught a Gabriel, looked angelic but most certainly wasn't. A hazard of teaching I guess, can put you off an otherwise lovely name!

MannyMoeAndJack · 12/08/2008 11:54

Have always like the name Gabriel (Peter Gabriel = good connotation). I also like the shortened Gabe too.

I was set on Gabriel Arthur Louis for DS, but DH wasn't having any of it.

A lovely name but quite popular...

Weegiemum · 13/08/2008 13:50

Am I the only person who doesn't like Gabriel?

Just sounds too poncey for me! But I have finished having kids, so not really my problem!

Boobz · 13/08/2008 16:08

What did you call yours Weegiemum?
