FattipuffsandThinnifers · 20/08/2008 12:12

Met a Geronimo (boy) once.

Knew a Boudicca and her brother Caractacus when growing up.

And heard of an Rmarni (yes, spelt like that!) recently.

katiepotatie · 20/08/2008 12:13

Jubilee - was hoping she was calling on a dog! But no a little girl came round the corner!

lionheart · 20/08/2008 12:18

Came across a Hobson last week.

georgiemum · 20/08/2008 12:26

My sister had an Alora at her kindergarden.

neolara · 20/08/2008 12:31

Fattipuff, I knew that family! At least I knew Caracticus but not his sister.

wearymum200 · 20/08/2008 12:32

Knew a JJ (girl) years ago.

girlywhirly · 20/08/2008 12:33

I have known children named

Iona and Lorelle (girls)

Sunny and Zane (boys)

EsmeWeatherwax · 20/08/2008 12:33

I went to school with a girl called Squirrel. I've also heard tell of a Skeletor MacGregor wandering around Glasgow somewhere, but it may be an urban myth.

Blandmum · 20/08/2008 12:37

My mate's SIL has taught a Truly-Scrumptious

There was a Pocahontas born in Dundee at the time I had DD

SueMunch · 20/08/2008 12:41

There was a boy at my school called, wait for it:

Boy!

ilovemydog · 20/08/2008 12:45

chipmonkey · 20/08/2008 12:51

SueMunch How unimaginative!

I met a boy called Athos years ago

lojoesmammy · 20/08/2008 13:01

I work with a lady whose children have pebbles (girl) and bam bam (boy) for middle names.

Botbot · 20/08/2008 13:05

Alcapone

(boy).

GorgonsGin · 20/08/2008 13:09

I know of a Tansy Honey-Bee. I worked with her father and he blushed bright red telling me her name.

Alabama
Zebedee

And I went to school with a girl called Javre (pronounced, pseudo French style, Shav-ray)

Best ever name was my PA's when I worked in Greece - she went by the very Bond Girl name of Aphrodite Lovely. Aphrodite is a really common name there and she married an American man, Mr Lovely.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 20/08/2008 13:12

Makes some of the "odd" names I wanted when pg seem quite normal! DH wouldn't let me use Aurora.

I know some oddly named children, but I love the names that people give themselves. I used to work with a few girls from China, they were students over here and they had their Chinese name and an English, which was either a translation or something they'd named themselves, so I worked with a Cherry, Butterful and Linda

I used to have to email a girl overseas at work called Princess (when I was pg I did mention this name to him as potential girl name, he didn't answer me!)

My boss at work is from South Africa and she says that in Africa the people often have their Afrian name and another name which are words they have heard in English, hence the Beloved, Loved, Gifted etc (which I think are lovely)

I think my next one may be Stopit or Getbackhereoryouwillbesorry or Cutitout or Putthatbackwhereyoufoundit. I call my son these on a daily basis.

Apparantly NO children have been registered as GERTRUDE in the last few years - so that would be one of the most unusual you could call your child no.

If you really wanted 'unusual' that badly.

FTMum · 20/08/2008 13:58

i worked with a gertrude about 2 years ago.
oh and i met a baby called maude last year.

i suppose traditional names are unusual now.
