Dunno, but if you do call him Bear, please let me know if he does shit in the woods.

Daft beyond almost any other name suggestion I've read on MN , other than Alias

I've changed my mind, call him Bear Nekkid

Heated · 09/08/2008 20:51

Ok so I don't get to profer Ass Naked since you are going for the more sensible option of Bear as the mn.

Presumably as a mn it will also rule out Edward, Theodore, Rupert, Barnaby, Keir...

Do you still want traditional English as the fn?

CoteDAzur · 09/08/2008 21:02

Poor poor child.

insywinsyspider · 09/08/2008 21:27

Heated - yup trad english name for first name

chelsygirl · 09/08/2008 21:38

Blandmum · 09/08/2008 21:39

Or be posh and hyphenate the first name and call him Rupert-The

Heated · 09/08/2008 21:41

Traditional English

Thomas Bear
Albert/Albie Bear
Arthur Bear
Harry/Hal Bear
Fergus/Angus Bear
Stanley Bear
Hugo Bear
Jonas Bear
Douglas Bear
Gregory Bear
Patrick Bear
Jonathan/Jonny/Jonty Bear

Possibly avoid Fred Bear or Keir Bear.

Did you have any other names in mind other than Bear?

Dynamicnanny · 09/08/2008 21:56

I like bear but agree with Old Gregg you need 2 middle names to make it sound "right"

Mhamai · 09/08/2008 21:59

Care

CoteDAzur · 10/08/2008 07:43

Will it ever 'sound right'? Really?

insywinsyspider · 10/08/2008 19:50

I think Bear is very nice, and agree Bear Alexander is a nice way of making it respectable. Frankly, he is going to get so much sex in university!

Superposh kids have much more ridiculous names - I notice a lot of Merlins in Tatler-ish places and I once went out with a posh Titus. And that was half because of the name...

CoteDAzur · 10/08/2008 20:03

"I just like the name Bear"

Except that it's not a name.

Repeat after me:

Bear. Is. Not. A. Name.

Not for humans, anyway

3andnomore · 10/08/2008 22:17

Ooops...first I thought you had a first name and your surname was Bear....

hm....Trad....I used to ride a Pony of that name....feisty little thing....very fast....ex-polo ponie....but kinda like Trad as a name....possible coneccted with my fond memories of that time

mamazee · 12/08/2008 16:52

i think the name bear is fab.
if you say bear is a name then it is.
i know an isaac bear.
my son has a 'different' name (as i do) funny how all the people i really love and respect love it and those that don't call their kids more conventional things which i HATE.
if you like it..stick to it. once he is here no one will know if it is a bloody nick nmae or first name.
and he WILL be his name.
i love it and would say so if introduced to you anywhere.
GO FOR IT
only problem with it as a second name is that it does sound like the name of a teddy to me.
sorry...

Brooke0113 · 21/11/2014 18:12

I think bear is an amazing name and so many people are not brave enough to step out and use unique names anymore.

Bear Alexander
Bear Edward
Bear Charles

And those could be switched as well using bear for a middle name.
I love the name!

TellmetogetonwithmyWork · 21/11/2014 18:20

Zombie thread. I wonder if there is a 6 year old Bear out there

PetaPipa · 21/11/2014 19:57

Interesting the reaction to the name Bear in 2008. I bet in 2014 it would barely (ha ha) raise an eyebrow on Mumsnet!

2020 and as I'm currently trying to conceive, people give me crap for wanting Bear as my childs first name. Trying to talk me out of it. If you really like a name and it just feels right, go for it.
