I have a son who has a surname sOunding name. It is quite unusual but not unheard of. I am now pregnant again due early december and can't think of any other surname sounding names for boys that don't sound really chavvy, anyone got any ideas? Got names for a girl sorted its just a boys name that will go with our son's name that we are struggling on. All suggestions more than welcome!

Fletcher, Travis, Laurence, Ummmmm.....

clpsmum · 31/07/2008 14:02

Fletcher is quite nice but our surname begins in Fl so probably won't go. I really like Dexter and Ashton but my husband thinks they are too american sounding

I'll probably be slated, but I have to confess that I'm not a big fan of surname-names

What is your DS's name? Bet I could find something to go with it that isn't a surname!

AbbeyA · 31/07/2008 15:15

I hate surnames as names unless you have a family connection. My surname and my maiden name are both used as names and it always sounds odd.

ImnotOK · 31/07/2008 15:18

My uncle called his son Sadler after his great garndfathers surname or something.

I like morgan ,cameron and taylor.

mum2taylor · 31/07/2008 15:21

my little girl is called Taylor! I hadn't even thought of it as a surname before Can be a boys name too though.

TinkerBellesMum · 31/07/2008 15:22

A lot of surname names don't sound like surnames though AbbeyA, just read this list! The reason your names sound odd is probably more because you're so used to it than really being odd (unless you have a name that really would be odd as a surname!)

I wouldn't put Harrison with Jackson, it's a bit like alliteration. Agree with your husband that Ashton and Dexter are rather American, don't know if it's a reason to not use them though.

2HotCrossBunnies · 31/07/2008 15:24

I have a Harrison and an Austen - I'm hoping for a girl next time who I want to call Darcey, if I ever persuade DH for DC3!!

ChopsTheDuck · 31/07/2008 15:25

bailey

OurHamsterisevil · 31/07/2008 15:26

I love Riley would like that next time. And I have a Cooper, so obviously think that is great.
AbbeyA Most firat names came about from being surnames in the frist place. It used to ba a tradition, not so long ago, to name the second son after the mothers maiden name. First son being named after the father.

clairebear88 · 31/07/2008 15:29
