Could I have your opinions on the folowing baby name short list please?

Quite like something unusual but quite classic for a girl but have come to the conclusion that am not comfortable giving a boy anything non traditional!

So far we have:

Girls:
Eliza
Cecily
Matilda
Sylvie

Boys:
Henry
Benjamin
Max
Nico (trying to please DH)!

Like Matilda and Henry

EffiePerine · 21/07/2008 17:02

I like all of them except Eliza (but like Elizabeth). Love Cecily and Max

combustiblelemon · 21/07/2008 17:07

Love Matilda and Henry. The others are nice, but I'm not keen on Nico.

BlueDragonfly · 21/07/2008 17:08

How do you pronounce Cecily?
I think it might be too much iyswim.
What about Celia?

Anyway Cecily is my favourite and for boys I like Nico.

Well it was my favourite off the list but I had in my head that it was Sess il lee, just didnt seem right.

janeite · 21/07/2008 17:22

Cecily is lovely.

Benjamin for a boy - could have Benjamin Max to please dh?

Tigerschick · 21/07/2008 17:23

I'd go for Matilda for a girl ...
Not sure about boys but I'd probably say Max.

ShowOfHands · 21/07/2008 17:28

I have a Mathilda so am biased. It is very popular now though. [grr]

Henry's alright, but also quite popular around here. I love Benjamin.

Posey · 21/07/2008 17:34

Like all the girls names, though personally wouldn't choose Matilda as it will get shortened to Tilly and there are lots around.

Boys all nice though would choose Benedict over Benjamin.

I couldn't choose a favourite though, all nice names

Anna8888 · 21/07/2008 17:37

Eliza is much the nicest of your girls names. Sylvie is a horrid old fashioned French name. Cecily is a little pretentious in English (and Cecile is not very pretty in French). Matilda is dull.

Henry is fab. Benjamin is fine if shortened to Ben. Max and Nico are meeja names from 10 years ago.

nailpolish · 21/07/2008 17:40

what about Camilla

i think that is a lovely name and thoroughly underused

cece · 21/07/2008 17:43

Girls:
Eliza - love it
Cecily - not sure, a bit too much like Cecil
Matilda - not keen on this
Sylvie - pretty

Boys:
Henry - nice solid name
Benjamin - I like this one
Max - yes good but quite common aorund these parts
Nico (trying to please DH)! - not one I owuld choose unless you are Italian...

Doozie · 21/07/2008 17:50

Henry is my pick for the boys.

I love Cecily - I knew a fantastic girl by this name so can only say great things about it. She was Cec (Sess) for short.

Matilda & Eliza are also lovely.

olyoly · 21/07/2008 19:39

thought it was SESS ih lee ?

loobylu3 · 21/07/2008 21:03

Does anyone know what Anna8888 means by meeja names? Haven't heard of that before!

Anyway, thanks everyone for the responses- generally quite positive!

Love Eliza and Sylvie. Also love Benjamin and Max. Henry and Cecily sound quite posh to me.

I like Eliza and Cecily from the girls list and Henry, Benjamin & Max from the boys.
