Gabriel vs Angus; Isabella vs Claudia

Hi everyone - first time poster! Discovered I was pregnant a days ago, and have already started thinking of names. All the other threads talk about things like Mucus Plugs and Ventouse, neither of which I have ever heard of or know what to do with, but I can join in the name games...

I have been thinking of either Gabriel (Gabe) or Angus (Gus) for a boy, and then either Isabella (Bell / Bella) of Claudia for a girl.

What are your favourites, or do you hate all of them. Anyone decided to call their babe's any of these names (trying to work out how popular they are, or will be, in 8 months!)

Not easily offended!

I have a cousin (boy) called Gabriel, prounced like Gabriella, (with out the ella bit,) and also a niece called gabriella, both get shortendd to Gabs. Nice classy names not unusual enough to be teased over. Not sure about Claudia, but its not an unpleasant name, Its only faddy names you have to watch out for like Kylie, chardonny, kerisha etc,

Do you already have any kids? Or pregnant with your first?
I like Rose, but reckon she would get called Rosie...

Gabriel and Claudia

I have a Rose and she is never called Rosie, she's 16 and has always insisted on Rose.

Hulababy · 20/07/2008 20:08

Of OP choices: Gabriel and Isabella

savoycabbage · 20/07/2008 20:09

I really like Isabella but you can hardly move for them in our baby clinic.

Isabellasmam · 30/07/2008 11:23

guess my choice

frazzledoldbag34 · 30/07/2008 12:26

Angus and Claudia lovely. One of mine was so nearly Claudia (and sometimes wish she was). Claudie pretty when she's little, Claud also cute.
Isabella lovely too, but v popular (as everyone seems to agree).

Not keen on Gabriel personally.

fridayschild · 30/07/2008 12:46

We live in London and as I have Scottish parents both my boys have Scottish names. No one comments on the first Scottish name, it is only when they know both names that people ask about the Scottish connection. I reckon you could get away without the Scottish link if you wanted an Angus.

not keen on Gus, personally, but it's your baby!

Gabriel and Isabella.

I went to school with a Claudia who put me off the name for life. And I like a nice angel-name. Was going to call DD1 Raphael if she'd been male.

claudib · 04/08/2008 20:34

i'm called Claudia and i've always loved my name. Have met no more than 4 other Claudias in my life.

pointydog · 04/08/2008 20:38

Are you Scottish? Angus and Isabella have a traditional Scottish ring to them (although do't go for the shortned Isa).

AtheneNoctua · 04/08/2008 20:39

My gran had a brother Angus who was killed in the First World War. I very briefly toyed with the name for DS, but was met met with a stark "Are you crazy" look on DH's face and that was the end of Angus for me. Poor Uncle Angus, may he rest in peace.

Gabriel is cool. and love Isabella/Isabelle. Claudia is not bad, but prefer Isabella.

AtheneNoctua · 04/08/2008 20:40

I thought Isobel was the Scottish form?

pointydog · 04/08/2008 20:40

I do like Alex for a girl.
and I like Ed/Eddie for a boy.

pointydog · 04/08/2008 20:41

I think it is, Athene, but there are hunners of old Isabellas in Scotland. It was an extremely popular name

katiepotatie · 04/08/2008 20:45

I like Angus and Isabella, Izzy for short.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/08/2008 20:50

I have a Claudia so obviously love that.
Also wanted Gabriel if she was a boy.
But like your other choice too.

thisisyesterday · 04/08/2008 20:54

we have a Gabriel, so am probably biased. I think it is becoming more popular though, I keep coming across them lol

It is a bloody fab name and Gabe is the coolest shortneing ever isn't it?

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/08/2008 20:58

Totally agree, Gabe is lovely too.
Dh wont go for it just because he has a neice called Gabrielle.
Says its too similar.

rodg82 · 12/08/2008 19:07

How about Isla? Scottish connections - similar ring to it(in my head anyways!)to isabella if you're worried about its popularity?

loobylu3 · 12/08/2008 19:13

I think Claudia is a lovely name for a girl and is not too popular at the moment. Isabella is pretty but a little too 'flowery' for my taste.
Not mad on Angus and Gabriel personally.

quickerthistimeplease · 12/08/2008 19:13

Loads of little isabellas around. 2 friends both just had Isla's (makes me think of Isla St Clair a bit...)

WinkyWinkola · 12/08/2008 19:15

Claudia and Angus.

Much more interesting than Gabriel and Isabella which sound a bit wishywashy to me. I mean, I'd want to meet a Claudia and an Angus if I saw their names on a CV. Bit of a projection there... ... . . .

ethanchristoper · 17/08/2008 23:12

gabriel and isabella
