dh came up with this one today. We are really struggling with boys names. I would just like to ask for anyones opinions. Is it awful? Or do you like it?

I love it, considering it for my baby too if we have a boy We are kinda debating as to whether we should have it as a first or middle name but I think it will factor somewhere:D

HunphreyCushion · 13/07/2008 20:47

I like it.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 13/07/2008 20:47

We are struggling with boys names too. Plenty if its a girl.
Personally I like it. It was my choice for dd1 if she was a boy.
The only name me and dh agreed on as he hated all mine.
Not sure if Im going to go for it this time as I have a few more I like too.
my mum just keeps saying sunny d as in the drink.

2point4kids · 13/07/2008 20:47

My friend just named her baby Sonny.
I think its lovely

WendyWeber · 13/07/2008 20:48

It's not a proper name to me - like Junior, that isn't either - both OK as pet names but I think a boy should have an actual name too.

LovelyDear · 13/07/2008 20:48

I like it. Danny Baker's son is sonny, and i like him, ergo...

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 13/07/2008 20:50

I need a good middle name to go with it as it doesnt sound very good with our surname.
Think george bush, washington d.c, BIG BUILDING

4madboys · 13/07/2008 20:52

Dp and i really like it, we almost called ds4 it, but went for Rudi instead, which we thought was nice and a bit unusual, and then bloody edith bowman had her baby a few weeks later and called him Rudy, she spelt it wrong tho, obviously.

I know a lovely Sonny who is about 9yrs old and dont know any others.

nooka · 13/07/2008 20:58

Personally I think it is awful because it isn't really a name, and it is very diminutive, like Junior, Baby etc. I don't like these as long term nick names either. But if you like it

Kimi · 13/07/2008 21:07

not one I like tbh

Eleta · 13/07/2008 21:08

I'm really not sure. I love Gabriel but dh concerned he could get called gay gabe

OP posts:
Kimi · 13/07/2008 21:10

Gabriel is lovely, also Gil is nice

nooka · 14/07/2008 03:05

Gabriel is fab. My cousin is called Gabriel (or Gabe) and has never had any stick about it. He is highly cool though, which might help!

FabioTheLiterateCat · 14/07/2008 03:19

I know a Sonny, but I always think "....and Cher" when I hear it.

[shows age]

I'm not keen on Sonny. I agree that it's not a proper name, more a pet one or term of affection. A bit like going through life being called 'Poppet.'

My nephew is Gabriel. He's four now and at nursery school and is always called is full name.

edam · 14/07/2008 08:44

Don't like it. Sorry, but it's a child's nickname. Can you imagine a high court judge called Sonny?

edam · 14/07/2008 08:45

I think the macho Sonnys had to go into boxing or whatever just to prove something because they were burdened with such a little boy name. Like Shirley becoming a wrestler (was it Big Daddy?).

My SIL's boy is a Sonny. I have to say, I still don't like it. "This is my son...Sonny". But as ever, your baby, your choice.

seeker · 14/07/2008 10:40

Remember you are not just naming a baby, you are naming a boy, a teenager, a man and an old man. Think of a middle aged man called Sonny.

Could you call him something else - not sure what - and have Sonny for a nick-name?

Sim43 · 14/07/2008 10:47

Sorry I think it is awful. Like Seeker says you really have to think of the child as an adult.

charitygirl · 14/07/2008 10:55

Too juvenile - limiting in later life.

Bluestocking · 14/07/2008 10:58

Just awful. Don't do it.
