really nice - but if you care about such things there are quite a few of them about.

MamaG · 10/07/2008 12:37

i like it, there are a lot of them at the moment though (don't you whether you'd worry about that!)

savoycabbage · 10/07/2008 12:38

I like it but there are lots and lots and lots of them. I do like it.

igod · 10/07/2008 12:39

Great if your surname is Tuesday

Very common these days

motherinferior · 10/07/2008 12:39

I think of this. Which is a good thing, IMO, though.

i like Ruby, but prefer Pearl if we are going down the gemstone theme

yes, it is popular, but if you like it, go for it

Boco · 10/07/2008 13:31

Lol, was wondering about the name 'Great'. Especially good if your last name is Tits.

Ruby is gorgeous, but as everyone said, very common nowadays, which you may or may not care about?

We considered it, but felt it was too popular, there was even one on Eastenders at the time...

Actually when considering it, it was on short list for middle names, in the end we used Rose and a family surname for dd's two middle names. Rose just works after her name so well!!!

but I can just picture a little dark haired girl being called Ruby, it would be perfect....

elmoandella · 10/07/2008 13:48

i like it. it's not common in my area at all.

elle23 · 10/07/2008 15:11

DD2 called Ruby... blonde, blue eyes, not exactly what you think of when a child is called Ruby. We chose the name because we liked it, and also the song (Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby) was playing when i went into false labour...maybe not a great reason, but i'm pleased with the choice. the eastenders ruby had long passed wehn DD2 was born so forgot about that...dont know anyone else called ruby, not well known where i am, depends on where u live i guess... although our DD2 was born few days BEFORE charlotte church had her daughter. we'd already named ours, but if we hadn't i would have changed my mind based on the fact that CCs DD has same first name....

Kezza7779 · 11/07/2008 13:15

i LOVE this name - DH wasnt having any of it - its one of the top on the baby names list now

AbbeyA · 11/07/2008 13:22

Loathe it! I immediately imagine an oversized middle aged/elderly woman! It goes with Pearl and Beryl.
However I might use it for a pet.

Sim43 · 11/07/2008 13:25

My Neice is called Ruby and she is lovely. I believe it is popular with celebrities. Philip Schofields daughter is Ruby I think and I'm sure there are a few more, can't remember them at the moment!

AbbeyA · 11/07/2008 13:31

It is far too popular-along with Lily, Kitty and Mae.

cheesesarnie · 11/07/2008 13:33

ds2 was going to be ruby.when he was born.midwife said that most baby girls born in last week at that hospital were rubys!i still love it though.
