What’s your thoughts?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Sounds fine.

HapsburgChin · 07/10/2026 09:41

The two names seem to come from very different schools of naming. I like Theodora, but don’t care for Lainey.

Absolutely lovely. Is Lainey a family name or just a name you like?

How lovely, I'm a fan of middle names being after family members, and Lainey is very cool in my opinion!

Great choice.

You might get people comment about shortenings of the name, Theo for example is quite popular for boys as a name, or people might think she'll get called Dora. Something I have noticed with the current tween/teenage population is they tend to say names in full these days, and don't automatically go to a short version, so if you prefer her to be called Theodora in full, I think that will be a lot easier and more normal than others often say on here. Kids these days seem much more open to a wide variety of names from various cultures, themes and styles. Of course if you like Theo or Dora kids will go along with that too.

Firsttimebabymummy · 07/10/2026 11:31

Lovely!

ToKittyornottoKitty · 07/10/2026 11:33

I don’t like it, I think it sounds a bit whiny and American to be honest. But Lainey having a family link so nice so maybe that would do nicer with a slightly shorter first name

Norfolkbumpkin · 07/10/2026 11:35

Lovely names.

NarnianQueen · 07/10/2026 11:36

I really like it! I can imagine it as the name of the heroine in a retro movie, a Rosalind Russell type!

ASuitableName · 07/10/2026 11:54

Lovely names!

HugoThatway · 07/10/2026 15:27

I don't like them. Lainey after a grandmother is OK but seems like it's short for Lorraine or Elaine.
Theo and Theodore are overused. Theodora seems a bit 'we wanted a boy'

Pomegranatemum · 07/10/2026 15:31

I have a Theodora :) She is mainly Thea though. (And no, we didn’t want a boy (didn’t mind either way).)

HugoThatway · 07/10/2026 15:33

@Pomegranatemum ,is she a second or third daughter?

Second.
I loved - and still adore - the name Thea, but (and I know this is contentious) we wanted a ‘long name’ for birth certificate. At one point I was in my pregnant state I was even thinking of Theodosia! The meaning of the name was also important to us: God’s gift.

HugoThatway · 07/10/2026 16:02

I don't like it but I am not likely to ever meet you or your children so as long as you and she like it then that's what matters. You might not like my DC's names.

A friend has daughters and they very much wanted a son. The girls have names along the lines of Samantha, Philippa, Georgia ... known as Sam, Phil, Georgie...

Ah, fair enough, haha. Our DD1 has a much obviously feminine name.

Agree that it’s each to their own, and OP should use whatever name she wishes (within reason, ahem - ‘Jimberley’).

HugoThatway · 07/10/2026 16:13

Our Jimberley loves her name. Smile

Is Lainey a made up name as I haven't heard it before.
Where I live it means a small alleyway.

ginasevern · 07/10/2026 16:30

Wasn't keen on Lainey (sounded a bit made up and American) but as it's a family name that's different. And the two names work well together.

I think this.

It's all fine though, Lainey I just don't like as much as Theodora and think Theodora would work better with a more similar style of name.

I also would marginally prefer a single syllable after the quickstep of syllables in Theodora. So, for instance, Theodora Jane to me has a better rhythm.

I actually think some of the female versions of male names are among the most feminine and pretty names. Georgiana, Henrietta, Frederica, Caroline...

All very frilly and rather lovely.

It's names like Madison and Blake that sound like the parents wanted a boy to me.

SucksToBeYou · 07/10/2026 17:20

I really love Theodora, and I think Lainey is nice with the right mix of other names, but I really dont think that the two go together very well.

Sulgari · 07/10/2026 17:21

Awful, tbh

Theodora is quite the name to be saddled with

I think it's lovely! Quite a few little ones around these days too.

Theodora Lainey is nice.

I prefer the crisp sound of Theodora Elaine.
Is the grandmother an actual Elaine?

I love the nick names Thea and Tia.
