My shortlist are

Eira (Welsh and traditionally female but would be used for a boy)
Meirion (also Welsh)
Dylan
Joshua
Ezekiel
Gabriel
Ella's
Joel
Reuben

Any suggestions would also be welcome.

Lovely list. My favourites are Eira, Gabriel and Reuben though depending on your area, Reuben has suddenly got very popular in mine! Gorgeous names though.

Love the nn Zeke for Ezekiel and Joshua is a classic too

It's spelt Reuben.

I'm sure she knows and was probably a typo 😒

ImpunityJane · 30/09/2026 22:37

Eiros instead of Eira?

HudALledrith · 30/09/2026 22:38

Eira is a girls name, it would be like calling a girl Michael
More like calling a boy April. We've seen The Waltons.

Pumpup · 30/09/2026 22:40

I live in England and know two Eira’s and they’re both girls. I like Gabriel

ImpunityJane · 30/09/2026 22:37

Eiros instead of Eira?

Eiros isn't a name. Euros is, and I really like it.
Eirian is unisex but usually a woman's name.

LivingTheDreamish · 30/09/2026 22:44

I've always loved Joshua. Dylan is nice, especially if you have Welsh heritage.

MsSmartShoes · 30/09/2026 22:47

They all sound like the kid who causes trouble and had the fashionable haircut.

It's a key point with the name. It's frequently misspelt like that. No need to be defensive, as it's important.

HudALledrith · 30/09/2026 22:58

Baby name explorer - Rueben
It's like Pheobe

KnickerlessParsons · 30/09/2026 23:23

I wouldn’t use Eira for a boy. I like Meirion though.

Yellowcakestand · 30/09/2026 23:35

The only one I like on your list is Joel.

There are so many Ruben's about. What about Bodhi?

mathanxiety · 01/10/2026 02:51

How about Aneurin instead of Eira?

I like Gabriel a lot, from your list. Not really keen on any of the others.

User0311 · 01/10/2026 03:09

Gabriel 😍 timeless

user1492757084 · 01/10/2026 05:26

Of your names, I would use ..
Reuben
Dylan
Gabriel
Joel
Others you might like ..
Merrick
Robin
Lloyd
Rowland

Mere1 · 01/10/2026 05:35

Mostly boys’ names. All ok. Gabriel suggests dependability to me. As in Gabriel Oak.
Reuben is quite common now but It’s a good choice.

HudALledrith · 01/10/2026 09:46

Dylan is nice, especially if you have Welsh heritage.
That's what I don't like about it. If you are a Welsh speaker it's a bit of a Gary sort of name. If you don't speak Welsh you'll probably anglicise the pronunciation.
I see it as a tearaway's name - a bit 'We're cool parents and like names like Dylan, Marley and Arlo'

I suspect OP is looking for a name for a pet.

I was on you recent thread where you were saying you can’t have children of your own @Chefpig …. This is amazing! Have you fallen pregnant since then?

SeedsOfReason · Yesterday 18:34

Gabriel is my favourite.
