I love the name George but yes definitely stodgy for some reason 😅

It's a good, solid name,

It's nice to come across other people who like Georgia but don't like George. I always thought I was a bit weird.

I have a friend in his 40's called George and I know an 11 year old George, and cringe a bit every time I have to say their name, I really don't like it, and thought everyone else loved it!

I love all female versions of the name though! Still think I must be a bit weird...

I am one of the people who don't like George, and, like you, I am aware it seems a bit contradictory, especially as I very much like the other boy names that tend to belong in the same "group" - Charles, Edward, Henry, Frederick etc.

George is just a very heavy, sodden-sounding name. The feminine endings relieve that.

Naomi is my middle name. I love it. Always wished it was my first name. I have never met another. I think it’s timeless, uncommon, without being “odd”.

Zara is fine but my least favorite

Georgia I love. Also love Margot. But Margot is getting quite popular in some places.

KayEmAy · 25/08/2026 21:29

Love Zara!

Maggot!!! This is all i see when i see Margot. Was beginning to think i was alone in my confusion at its popularity

I concur!

EveryoneUsingOutro · 25/08/2026 22:42

In order

1 Naomi beautiful!
2 Zara I like it. Not very common where I am. I also like Zara Larsson’s songs 😄
3 Georgia it’s pretty but - I know 3 and all are called George or Georgie and I don’t like that.
4 Margot a hard and old lady name to me

EveryoneUsingOutro · 25/08/2026 22:44

Oh and would you say N”ay”omi (like neigh) or N”eye”omi I mean in the sound. I have heard both pronunciations and I like both.

Enko · 25/08/2026 22:49

Of the 4 Zara. Then Naomi

I find Georgia very harsh to say and personally dislike Margot.

I really like that nickname!

Do you ever get people assuming you've named her after the US state? Like someone named eg Dakota. I know the name is older than the US state & has a different root but I worry people would think we've imported a US name

Literally never lol ,or they have never said it to me.

Please suggest girl and boy names for a brother or sister to Liam James, Evelyn Rose and Annelise Joy. I'm looking forward to hearing your suggestions that match my current children's names.

Joynet · 26/08/2026 05:58

Sorry I didn't mean to post that on someone else's thread. I'm new here

Joynet · 26/08/2026 06:02

I was attracted to your post because 3 out of 4 of the names you suggested are people in my family. The only one that isn't is Margot. Zara and Georgia are nieces and Naomi is my sister. You might be interested in other names in our family because of this.... Anna, Katie, Lorien, Evelyn, Annelise.

HoraceCope · 26/08/2026 06:12

1 ~ Naomi
2 ~ Margot
3 ~ Zara

or perhaps Margot first, although I think it is probably more popular if that is any influence on you

ThisTealViewer · 26/08/2026 09:18

I think Naomi is my favourite of the four. It feels elegant without being too fussy, and I can picture it working just as well for a little girl as for an adult. Zara would be my second choice — very pretty and much more punchy.

That could be pretty identifying if someone knows you …..

Margot

dancehysterical22 · 26/08/2026 14:53

Love all of them except Georgia, commonly pronounced- 'Jorja'

BleedinglyObvious · 26/08/2026 14:56

I know a Jorja. She's the daughter of someone who thinks I'm her friend.

I think I pronounce it slightly more Jorg-ee-a (I don't know how to write what I say but basically the last syllable is subtely more than a 'ja' if that makes sense!)
