Classic baby girl names to go with Rosa, not too popular

Due baby girl #2 in the next few weeks and we can't settle on a name. With our daughter, we always had a name in mind so this is new territory! Big sister is Rosa. I'd describe our style as quite classic while not wanting something super popular, although I am more concerned about the name's popularity than partner is. We'd prefer a name that doesn't end in "a".

Any preferences from our current shortlist, or names that we've missed and should consider?

Names we have shortlisted:
Evelyn (nn Evie) - my partner's current favourite
Mabel - my current favourite
Hazel
Harriet
Annabel
Zoe

Names that one of us has vetoed:
Isabel/Isabella
Maeve
Florence
Constance
Anya
Nina
Clara
Madeleine
Meredith
Margot
Jasmine

Evelyn is too common these days and I do not get the current popularity of Mabel, its horrible.

From your list I like Harriet and Annabel. Why not stick with the floral theme:
Daisy
Iris
Lily
Hebe
Marigold
Pansy

Nina Phoebe Charis Letitia

Evie is way too popular. Mabel is on its way and is probably a bit too trendy for me though I think it might be a bit too niche still to ever reach a similar level as Evie. But as it is in fashion you’d probably end up with a few around at the same time

Alternatives:

Edith
Audrey
Sylvie
Vivienne

I like Harriet, Hazel and Annabel, but think Hazel goes best with Rosa.

Not Pansy! Imagine the teasing 😩

I like the names you've shortlisted. All would go well with Rosa, apart from Zoe. I think Zoe has too much of the Z sound alongside Rosa. Also, Ro and Zo would be too much as nicknames.
Hazel might be too much Z too.

I think Harriet or Mabel would be gorgeous.

There are far too many Evelyns with nn Evie out there.

Alternative succestions:
Alice
Edith
Anna
Juliet
Cecelia

I like Annabel and Zoe best. I really dislike Mabel. I’d feel very shortchanged if I was called that and my sister was Rosa. I think Hazel is dreary and I’m not keen on Harriet.
Mary?

mamaduckbone · 04/08/2026 17:14

Evelyn popped into my head instantly before even reading your shortlist - it’s a lovely name, classic without being too popular

Rosa after Luxembourg or Parks.

Could stick with the classic theme of mighty world changing women:

Eleanor (Marx)
Marie (Curie)
Elizabeth (Eckford)
Any of the Brontes
Etc.

itsgettingweird · 04/08/2026 20:51

Hazel and Florence from your list.
