Is this name too rare to be used?

I'm due in November with a girl, and I've really been liking the name Estée (pronounced ess-tay) after finding out that I had an ancestor called this. It's very simple and pretty to me. I think my DH is starting to come round to it too. Just wondering if I've gone mad.

I’d probably call her Estelle or Estella. If you call her Estee her friends will probably just say Esther. Your choice of course.

Came here to say the same thing, a cool association for sure. Este Haim spells it without the second e or the accent, so you could consider that if you want to weaken the association with the make-up brand. I think it's a really pretty name

It has a very strong association with Estee Lauder which makes it a bit like calling a baby Chanel.

I’ve loved it ever since hearing the Taylor Swift song with the band Haim where it references the name. It’s the name of one of Haim’s members, although she spells it Este I think. A beautiful name!

Name her Esther and call her Estée? That gives her options and a much less downmarket vibe than risking everyone thinking you named her after a brand.

I completely avoided the name Lenore because of the brand association. I was also mocked with Tui because of the brand but I know lots of Tui’s out of the UK.

i think the world is changing with mocking names, there are far more out there names than Estee, it’s very pretty.

I can't talk. I named my kid Lana. She made it till year 8 before the "anal" jokes started. Although, the McDonald's happy meal suggested her Superhero name was "Captain Anal" when she was 7. I tried so hard not to snigger. I failed.

Pretty nickname for Esther, Haim, Make-up, in that order. I like it.

The Mercedes in Mercedes-Benz was also named after a person, but people still associate that name with the car (at least in the UK where the name in uncommon).

I see it as a name first and a brand second (the brand was named after the person), so I think it it's fine. it reminds me of Esmée/Esmé. However, judging by some of the other replies, it sounds as though Esther would be a safer bet for the birth certificate than Estée, which could be a nickname.

Yes, I have never met a single soul, ever, who has that name. I googled, and in the entire 2000s - (2000 to 2009) less than 90 babies were named Estée . In the whole of America.

And only about 100 babies were called Estée in the 1990s in America.

I really like it. Makes me think of “No body no crime” (Taylor Swift/Haim) rather than Estée Lauder, but it’s a pretty name.

But are their actual names Estee with the same pronunciation as the OP, or are their actual names Esther, Estelle, etc. with the nickname Estee pronounced es-tee?

I feel like having the name Estee on your birth certificate and pronouncing it like es-tay is rare (in the UK).
