Is Beckham too out there?

Bit of a long shot but how do we feel about Beckham as a first name? Obviously it’s hard to separate from David, Victoria, and all that at this point, but wondering if it’s too loaded or if it still works as a forename?

I assume this thread is a windup but I have seen a young Beckham on a class list. So they do exist. I never identified the child or the parents (it was in the programme for a show with more than one school) but I still remember it several years later, they’ll be in their teens now.

One of my neighbours, a massive MU fan, called her Shih Tzu Beckham. Becks for short.

No….. I think most people instantly think David. The kid will be teased incessantly. I have a friend with the same name as a famous actor. He was teased mercilessly about his name.

By the time your DC is grown up, David and Victoria will be in their 70s and probably no longer much on people's radar, though who knows what their descendants might be up to!

Removing the celebrity association, I don't think it's a particularly great name in itself - it's a rather average-sounding surname, it doesn't suggest anything you might want a name to suggest - no elegance, ruggedness, intelligence, creativity, geekiness, sportiness, quirkiness etc. It's a bit dull.

OP, are you in the UK? Because I've never met anyone with Beckham as a first name and in the UK it has a very singular association, which is David Beckham and his family. I would assume that you're a David Beckham superfan, which might be annoying for the child if he grows up to dislike the celebrity association. But if you're living in (e.g.) the Caribbean then maybe it's not such a big deal because DB doesn't have the same cultural relevance there.

Bloody hell NO! Terrible idea. Choose a proper name. One that your child won't end up hating you for, one that won't make them think that you actually hated them the moment they were not.
