Which name is better: Mark (Marcus) or Elliott?

Which name do you think is better: Mark (Marcus) or Elliott?

Elliot but spelt with one T. Mark feels quite 70s-90s for me, and I don’t feel it’s back yet.

There are about a million Elliott’s in my kids social groups. Not a single mark.

But, when I think of Mark, he’s 40 and works in finance 🤷‍♀️

I like Marcus better. Not as keen on Mark.

There are too many spelling variations with Elliott. I'd see Elliott and Eliot as surnames, and Elliot as a first name. But that's probably just me.

If you go with Marcus maybe shorten it to Marc and agree with pp Elliot is preferable to Elliott

I prefer Marc, but I’m Welsh so I would. I wouldn’t spell the other as Elliott and it’s one of those surnames turned first names.

I can't help but see 'ott' at the end of Elliott and then I think it is too much having two ts. I'd also agree that I get surname vibes.

I don't mind Marcus, but I'm not a fan of Mark. Again, I think, 'It might leave a mark...'

I’m 55, there were lots of Marks at school with me, and in the years above and below so it makes me think of a middle aged man. Sorry.

I'm late 50s and was surrounded by Marks!
But I think its a good name that goes with almost every surname ( well apart from Spencer).

I like Marcus but wouldn't ruin it by shortening it to Mark. It was my late uncles name. Not a fan of Elliott.

I really like Mark , i think it has a soft sound to it but at the same time it's a solid name , it's a bit different to the many samey little boy names around now.

If it had just been Marcus that's ok, but Mark is not a nice sound at all. One of those names like Simon that I'm glad has gone out of fashion.

I like Marcus. Good solid name.

Elliott. And with two ts is a much better spelling, I think.

I don't like Marcus, so chose Elliott, but I also don't really like names that have multiple spelling options.

I find it hard to take the name Elliott seriously. I imagine it in ET's voice Elle - E - ott.

Marcus is lovely and classy. I like the sound of Mark but not the double meaning with a stain- I'd use Marcus and Marc for short personally.

What's wrong with Simon? I think its a lovely name, if it weren't my husbands name it would've been strong contender for any son i might have had.

How many baby Simons do you know?

None, but tbh I don't know many babies.

Google less me 30-35 babies were called Simon last year. It’s not a name that is en vogue currently.
