Pregnant with my 3rd, always loved the name Mila, unsure if to do Amelia and just call her Mila or considering we wouldn’t actually call her Amelia just go for Mila. Other name suggestions welcome x

If you never plan to call her anything but Mila call her Mila.

How to you pronounce it? I dislike Myle-a pronunciation, but I love Mee-la and Mill-a

This was my thought too. Yes I would pronounce it as in Mee-La

I know a Mila. Not short for anything but doesn’t stop some people in the office from calling her Amelia!

NamingNoNames · 12/07/2026 12:51

I don't like Mila or Amelia but if you're only ever going to call her Mila register her as Mila. I wouldn't have made any connection between the two names.

LoudPlumDog · 12/07/2026 13:59

Amelia is one of my most favourite girls names. Also Alice.

Not so fussed on Mila. My friend has a daughter called Melia.

Betadelta · 12/07/2026 14:06

Usually I'm in favour of putting the full name on the birth certificate even if you're planning to always use a nickname, but in this case I'd consider Mila to be a name of its own, not just a nickname for Amelia, so I would just call her Mila.

NamingNoNames · 12/07/2026 14:35

I wouldn't recommend using a longer name with a different initial to the known as name.

Calliopespa · 12/07/2026 15:49

The problem for me is it reminds me of those little white pimples, milia.

sesquipedalian · 12/07/2026 15:58

OP, if you like Mila, call her that - it’s in the top fifty girls’ names. Amelia was number one according to Babycentre, so you might prefer a slightly less popular name.

NamingNoNames · 12/07/2026 16:49

@sesquipedalian ,Amelia was #3 in 2025. It's been a top 10 name in England and Wales since 2007, top 5 since 2010. Baby name explorer

ShetlandishMum · 12/07/2026 16:50

It's fine. Mila is fine.

EnidVance · 12/07/2026 18:15

Mila is just a noise, to me. Always has Rose stuck on the end of it. I like Amelia but there are billions of them.

I'm inclined to agree. It's the Me/Meal sound I don't like in the two names.
Amelia/Mila Grace/Rose.

PancakeCloud · 12/07/2026 21:08

Mila is very cute and a standalone name imo

Firebird83 · 12/07/2026 21:20

Don’t like Mila at all. Overly trendy and will date. It only became popular in English speaking countries because of Mila Kunis.

user293948849167 · 12/07/2026 21:25

I’d go for just Mila too
Or you could call her Camilla/Camille with Mila for short - but Mila on it’s own is a “proper name”

user1492757084 · 13/07/2026 06:19

Just use Mila, or Camila

Yes, it’s very odd coming from a Slavic family where Milas are all Ludmilas or Milenas that suddenly everyone is using a Slavic diminutive, which I associate with quite strict old ladies!

NamingNoNames · 13/07/2026 21:52

Names from other languages suggested on here are usually dated.
Mila (short for Milena) Kunis is 42.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 13/07/2026 22:13

I'd assume Mila was said Mill-lah, which might be annoying

Anyway I think I'd go for Amelia or Amelie because Mila does have the vibe of a random fashionable name that will date fast like Mia and Lila

Camellia would work also

Didimum · 13/07/2026 22:18

I prefer Mila, because Amelia is painfully common now. Mila will be pronounced My-la by the majority though, I think.

Mila as a stand-alone was top ten last year in Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia, and Serbia. And Milana was top ten in Ukraine.

IwanttoWFH · Yesterday 20:55

I work with a Mila (pronounced Mee-lah) short for Lyudmila (she’s Ukrainian). I’ve only heard one person call her “Myla”. I like it. It’s unusual.
