Margot vs Eloise

Which do you prefer for a baby girl? Both rising in popularity/now fairly common. Eloise would be shortened to Elle which I love, but I also love Margot!

Heloise would be my preference

AcrobaticCardigan · 24/06/2026 19:32

I love Margot. Not a fan of Eloise.

BoleynMemories13 · 24/06/2026 19:57

I much prefer Eloise.

I really can’t choose, love them both!

Crikeyalmighty · 24/06/2026 20:01

Both lovely

7238SM · 24/06/2026 20:05

Eloise. Pretty and nicer NN options.

When I read Margot, my brain reads Maggot and I can't unthink it. 😬
There is the option of the French spelling, but that would like cause spelling issues.

DejaMooo · 24/06/2026 20:11

I voted for Eloise because it was the name I loved from being little and always said if I had a little girl that would be her name. I couldn’t use it though as my sister picked a similar name for my niece (I didn’t want the confusion of two Ellie/Elle’s in the family). Still absolutely love it though.

Margot I also like, just isn’t my favourite of the two:

Eloise or Louise.

landlordhell · 24/06/2026 20:15

Eloise. Margot Leadbetter in mind but I’m in my 50s.

youalright · 24/06/2026 20:19

I know a few babies and kids called Margot and as much as I've tried i just really don't like the name but eloise I love

MiaKulper · 24/06/2026 20:30

Eloise is a mouthful of a name and Elle is nothingy and there are thousands of Ellies.
Margot makes me think of Maggot.

I'd look for more names.

EnidVance · 24/06/2026 20:36

Margot already is popular, I’m not a fan of it.

Baby name explorer - Margot
Baby name explorer - Eloise

The data is from 2024. Margot could be a top 20 name this year.

Susieblue18 · 24/06/2026 20:45

Have you thought of Elise, I think it’s easier to say than Eloise

minipie · 24/06/2026 20:52

Eloise or Elise gets my vote

Or how about Madeleine, Marguerite, Marianne, Manon?

MiaKulper · 24/06/2026 21:03

With Eloise bear in mind that some will misspell it as Elouise, which is awful.
Louise is nice.

Firebird83 · 24/06/2026 21:15

I don’t like Eloise at all. Margot is ok.

Citadelica · 24/06/2026 21:16

Eloise.

Always liked the name.

HappiestSleeping · 24/06/2026 21:20

My friend's dog is called Margot. One of my friends is called Eloise and she is absolutely lovely, so my vote goes there.

It's also a fantastic song by the Damned.

I like Eloise. I'm not keen on Margot at all.

LasVegass · 24/06/2026 21:34

Love Eloise

MiaKulper · 24/06/2026 21:53

@HappiestSleeping , it's a cover version.

Mumwithagreenhouse · 24/06/2026 21:54

What about Lydia?

HappiestSleeping · 24/06/2026 21:56

MiaKulper · 24/06/2026 21:53

@HappiestSleeping , it's a cover version.

Yeah, I know, but the cover was better. This is unusual, and I've only known it a few times. Van Halen with You Really Got Me, Quiet Riot with Cum on Feel the Noize, and Mama's Boyz with Mama We're All Crazee Now.

ETA - even Barry Ryan liked the Damned's version better.

Eloise all day every day. I’m in my fifties and Margot was the name given to the snobby character in the very popular (years ago) sitcom, the Good life. Honestly, I can’t believe it’s come back into fashion. I’d kill to be called Eloise, such a lovely ring to it.
