What do you think of the name Casey? What is the overall vibe of the name? Before you met a Casey, would you assume them to be a man or a woman?

I used to think it was a male name (Casey Kasem, Casey Jones) but now I only know girls named Casey, or Kacie (and other spellings) so I now think of it as a girls name.

I know two Casey’s in real life (women) but have seen male Casey’s in tv shows/ films. I do think it’s unisex.

Do you know how Australians pronounce Megan? I dare them to do that in Wales.

😆

I would think American surfer dude, probably mates with Kelly Slater and Laird Hamilton.

"It’s a surname. Using it as a first name for either sex has social class connotation, which may of course not bother you. But in general, if you wouldn’t call your child Smith, Singh or Evans, don’t call it Casey or Sullivan."

Have you ever been to Scotland or Northern Ireland?

Of course. I know both fairly well and I live in Ireland. What is your point ? Calling your child by a surname is always going to be problematic. Especially it is a surname from a different culture

I suppose so: it's a surname.

My point is, what's the social class connotation? I know men with the first names Hamilton, Campbell and Harrison for example. Socially pretty middle of the road. Not posh, but not going to be burning Translink buses, although surnames as first names could be either.

The Greeks must be annoyed by all the Alexanders around, but if they didn't like it he shouldn't have conquered half the world I suppose.

I know a female Casey and then a couple
of Kaycee / Kaci sort of variants. I’m sure it was originally a male name but sounds quite feminine these days.
