What are thoughts on Olympia ?
We have 1 DD already named Stella.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I really don’t like it!!

Thunderrolls · 19/06/2026 16:26

Can I ask what you don’t like about it ?

OP posts:

Each to their own, but not keen personally. I’d go for Blanche and Stella

Sounds like a conference centre

Pansykavalier · 19/06/2026 16:28

Personally it sounds a little pretentious. Greek gods and all that. Maybe another name that starts with O and ends on A - such as Olivia?

VivienneDelacroix · 19/06/2026 16:29

Yes, it's lovely.

Topseyt123 · 19/06/2026 16:29

Not my style but I have heard much worse. If you like it go for it.

I just don’t like the name. Would you have liked it growing up?

Shortandtothepoint · 19/06/2026 16:29

Not keen. It feels awkward to say in full, and I can't think what it might be shortened to.
Stella, I love. The prettiest and smartest girl in my class was a Stella.

How about Ola? Or Calista?

fruitpattern · 19/06/2026 16:31

I think the double Ah ending could get confusing? If you like left field names, what about Calypso?

Topseyt123 · 19/06/2026 16:31

I'd also think of Kensington Olympia in London, for exhibitions etc. that might be just me though.

Pansykavalier · 19/06/2026 16:35

I can…….. Oly/Olli…. 😲

thelongesday · 19/06/2026 16:38

Well it's better than Blanche or Calypso! but a bit of a mouthful IMO.

What about Esther - it's means star just like Stella.

Reminds me of The Camomile Lawn by Mary Wesley!!

mismomary · 19/06/2026 16:40

I assume you are Greek? If so then fabulous, go for it! If not… bit odd.

6ate9 · 19/06/2026 16:40

Stella and Evangeline (Evie)

ilovemyrailcard · 19/06/2026 16:41

Olympia sounds quite grand to me, whereas Stella doesn't. I'd put Olympia with names like Augusta, Clementine or Letitia. Stella sounds friendly and approachable (whilst still being relatively uncommon) like Zoe or Erin or maybe Xanthe.

Because Olympia has 4 syllables I imagine it'll end up being shortened. Olly or Limpy perhaps, so you'd need to be prepared for that.

Silverbirchleaf · 19/06/2026 16:42

It’s a nice name, but doesn’t really go with Stella. Stella = Stella Artois. Olympia = Greek Goddess . I think Stella could feel a bit short changed!

Melassa · 19/06/2026 16:46

Olympia is absolutely fine, no weirder that Olivia. I know an Olimpia (Italian, but lives in London at the mo) and no one has ever been fazed by her name. Nothing pretentious about it, go for it, Oli and Stella sound great together. If anything names like Blanche and Evangeline are much more in the trying too hard camp!

OneNaiceSnail · 19/06/2026 16:52

I like what someone else has said on here before about picking names. Parents should have to spend a month introducing themselves to everyone using that name. Would YOU like to have to tell people your name is Olympia?

Not a fan of Tennessee Williams I see 😂

I always think that too!!! Recently there was a post asking what people thought about the name Knowledge. I said the same thing, would you or your partner like to have that name. I don’t think anyone on that thread liked the name except the OP!!!

MrsSchadenfreude · 19/06/2026 17:00

Love it. I’ve known two and they have both been amazing women.

MrsMoastyToasty · 19/06/2026 17:03

I quite like it. I immediately thought of the actress Olympia Dukakis.

Mumofgirls2017 · 19/06/2026 17:28

I like it, but can’t fully get on board with the ‘limp’ sound in it. How about Athena, Aurora, Nova, Lyra, Clara, Aurelia, Tallulah, Pearl, Margot, Flora?
