What are thoughts on Olympia ?
We have 1 DD already named Stella.

I think the double Ah ending could get confusing? If you like left field names, what about Calypso?

OP, like some PP, I also think of the huge events centre, Olympia. And Olympia is a place in Greece, where the Olympic games started, and there is also a Mount Olympus, famous in Greek mythology. All this is to say, Olympia is too much of a place-name for me, plus it doesn't have a very pretty sound. The middle part sounds too close to "lump." And her nickname might be Limpy or Ollie. I just don't think it's suitable a a girl's name.

But this PP has an excellent suggestion. If you like names from Greek mythology, Calypso is lovely. Also can't really be shortened - except for Cal/Callie, which is all right. It doesn't lend itself to unflattering-sounding nicknames, and it sounds very musical.

There are many other names to choose from in Greek/Roman mythology.

Not a fan of Tennessee Williams I see 😂

Blanche is a weird name. I can't fail to hear it as a verb, which means to turn pale. "She had planned to go sailing on Saturday afternoon, but she blanched at how rough the sea looked."

Immediately made me think of cruise ships for some reason. Together they sound like Cunard liners The Olympia and The Stella (Maris?!)

Frazzledinmyforties · 19/06/2026 17:49

I love it. I’ve known a few people with it and I think it’s a strong name. It’s spelt as it sounds which helps.

BeSharpHelper · 19/06/2026 17:50

Sounds like Oompa Loompa , no I don’t like it. Apollo?

I don’t like Blanche either, reminds me of Blanche Ingram in Jane Eyre!!

No it simply doesn't go

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 19/06/2026 18:12

Orla, Holly or Hazel are pretty with Stélla I wouldn’t with anything too long.

I really like Olympia and I don’t think that many people outside of London will make the connection with the Kensington exhibition centre. And even if they do, I don’t think it matters. It’s a really cool name; has the same vibe as names such as Valentina, Celeste, Octavia, etc.

Calliopespa · 19/06/2026 19:49

Together they cast a most unfortunate light on each other.

I much prefer Octavia.

But that sounds too classical with Stella. Stella is a different kind of name entirely imo.

Not overly keen tbh makes me think of swimming pools. Stella despite meaning star is such a down to earth name. Olympia isn't. How about Selene or Juno?

Myswweetchild · 19/06/2026 22:36

Some lovely suggestions here.
Stella and Esther
Stella and Xanthe
Stella and Athena
( I love Stella. I don't know of any Olympia's apart from Serena Williams has one ? I don't like it).

aster10 · 19/06/2026 22:37

I can see the operatic reference.

Jellybean23 · 19/06/2026 22:46

Not a fan of Olympia. How does it sound with your surname?

Cllhmtdyndgvhmjb · 19/06/2026 23:18

crazeekat · 19/06/2026 23:30

Olympia sounds quite grand to me, whereas Stella doesn't. I'd put Olympia with names like Augusta, Clementine or Letitia. Stella sounds friendly and approachable (whilst still being relatively uncommon) like Zoe or Erin or maybe Xanthe.

Because Olympia has 4 syllables I imagine it'll end up being shortened. Olly or Limpy perhaps, so you'd need to be prepared for that.

This. Another one that ends in A could work.
