Jesse

Thoughts on Jesse for a boy? DH is pushing for it. I like it but know so many female Jessies/Jessis (often short for Jessica) that it kind of takes away the charm. I feel the same way about Jamie. Meeting too many people with a certain name makes it feel dull.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It's a beautiful name.

Uricon2 · 01/06/2026 19:26

Carly Simon. Jesse is a boys name and has been for a few thousand years.

Jesse James?

Bet noone took the piss out of him for his name!

Great name

SundayGirl86 · 01/06/2026 20:23

I absolutely love it - great name!

BurnoutBee · 01/06/2026 20:27

Genuinely awful. Wet and weedy.

MiddleAgedDread · 01/06/2026 15:06

this, it's such a "wet" name for a boy!

It's a biblical name and not spelled the same way.

They won't struggle to find a famous Jesse in, say, twenty years' time - so many boy Jesses being named these days one or two of them are bound to be famous!

It's grown on me, very trendy name, similar vibe to Jude, Ezra etc.

I have never met, nor do I know a single boy or man called Jesse.

I have never met, nor do I know a single boy or man called Jesse.

It seems more popular in America tbh.

Zov · 01/06/2026 20:58

Marcipex · 01/06/2026 19:09

Yes it’s used as an insult.
I wouldn’t use it because I wouldn’t give potential bullies any ammunition.

There are many much nicer names.

Yep this. Don't call your son this @Deeal

itispersonal · 01/06/2026 20:59

It off my name list due to a couple of kids I’ve taught with that name putting me off!

Zov · 01/06/2026 21:00

Needmorelego · 01/06/2026 20:58

It seems more popular in America tbh.

Hmmmm not this century it's not.

MyDuvetDay · 01/06/2026 21:08

It carries strong 80s vibes for me

SwedishEdith · 01/06/2026 21:09

I love it. Would have been our boy choice over 20 years ago. Feels a very strong name to me.

Needmorelego · 01/06/2026 21:10

Zov · 01/06/2026 21:00

Hmmmm not this century it's not.

184th most popular boys name in the USA 2025 according to Google.
It was more popular in the 70s and 80s but still seems to be a steady regular name.

Daphnedolittle2 · 01/06/2026 21:11

Zov · 01/06/2026 16:36

Are you glad now that your DH vetoed it?

No I still like it and for a while I wished it was our sons name. The first mum friend I made at a baby group had a Jesse and I felt so envious of the name.
When I told him he was nearly a Jesse he said he preferred his actual name though. He's 6.

trendysetter · 01/06/2026 21:18

Just sounds like a girls name.

WhatNextImScared · 01/06/2026 21:21

Very popular suddenly. I have a child in reception and know three now (aged between 1 year and 6 years)

IAMFLUFF · 01/06/2026 21:24

I know a Jesse he’s early 30’s now. I love the name. It’s either pronounced Jess or Jessie.
I also know a Jude again a great boys name. Love Jesse go for it OP

Fast800goingforit · 01/06/2026 20:29

It's a biblical name and not spelled the same way.

That doesn’t make it ok!

Needmorelego · 01/06/2026 21:41

Perhaps people should just stop using names as an insult.
I haven't heard Jesse/Jessie as an insult for donkeys years. Would children today have ever even heard it used that way?

suburburban · 01/06/2026 21:50

MiddleAgedDread · 01/06/2026 21:35

That doesn’t make it ok!

It means gift in Hebrew and Jesse was the father of David who Jesus is descended from

Calliopespa · 01/06/2026 21:56

MiddleAgedDread · 01/06/2026 15:06

this, it's such a "wet" name for a boy!

Strangely, I think of it as quite boyish.

I definitely hear Jesse not Jessie, and have never actually thought about them sounding the same.

purplezigzag · 01/06/2026 21:58

I like it.

Makes me think of Jesse James and Jesse from Breaking Bad.

Calliopespa · 01/06/2026 21:59

Uricon2 · 01/06/2026 19:26

Carly Simon. Jesse is a boys name and has been for a few thousand years.

Jesse James?

Bet noone took the piss out of him for his name!

Soooo long since I have heard this!

Rollergirl79 · 01/06/2026 22:02

UnderstatedMe · 01/06/2026 18:58

With that spelling it is pronounced Jess. just checking you know that

No its not.
