Jesse

Thoughts on Jesse for a boy? DH is pushing for it. I like it but know so many female Jessies/Jessis (often short for Jessica) that it kind of takes away the charm. I feel the same way about Jamie. Meeting too many people with a certain name makes it feel dull.

Love it

Love it.

lemoncurdcupcake · 01/06/2026 14:41

I like it 🥰

Have been meaning to start a thread about J names though, as they seem to be brought up on here regularly as 'naughty names'. Is this really a trend (albeit one no doubt skewed by perception and confirmation bias)?!

Have a wonderful friend (DH of a friend) named Jesse, so I like it.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 01/06/2026 14:55

It’s not my favourite name, can’t say why. But it’s nice enough and apparently in at 76 under top 100 boys names this year.,

MegMortimer · 01/06/2026 14:56

I like it.

TomatoSandwiches · 01/06/2026 14:57

I don't hate it but it feels wet and I think it's one of those rare names that only really suit certain people.

this, it's such a "wet" name for a boy!

Specialneedsnightmare · 01/06/2026 15:10

Makes me think of Home and Away!

It’s not rare (Acc to the baby names list) but I do agree it only suits certain people. I’m old enough to remember Dear Jessie Madonna - even though it’s got an i in it.

Zov · 01/06/2026 15:24

No. It's a girls name to me, even with the boys spelling. May have been OK 1980s or before, but I wouldn't give a boy the name Jesse.

Madonna's song Dear Jessie was about a little girl.

As I said, it just conjures up 'girl.'

It was about a little girl wasn’t it? Honestly couldn’t remember just remember it being played over and over on the radio when it was released.

What about Jesse Jackson and Jesse James? Both men.

Yes. Smile

Hinthebuild · 01/06/2026 15:30

I've never met a Jesse/Jessie that I've got on with and genuinely liked (man or woman)... The ones that I've met have been very irresponsible people.

KojaksLollipop · 01/06/2026 15:30

My favourite boys name since I was little, love it.
I couldn’t use it as DH has a niece Jessica, I’m still mad about it 25yrs later, lol

Rubbleonthedouble2 · 01/06/2026 15:32

My Freddie was almost a Jesse! If I have another boy he will likely be a Jesse. I think it's a cool name.

I know. As I said though I just think 'girls name' when I hear someone say it. And Jesse James and Jesse Jackson were born a long time ago. When it suited men a bit more. I also think 'Jesse' - for a boy - is more common in America, not the UK. (And even then quite rare compared to many other names.) I have never met a male Jesse in my life.

I think most people will struggle badly to find a famous Jesse born after the 1940s.

JMO.

DramaAlpaca · 01/06/2026 15:35

I like it a lot.

BrownRedPink · 01/06/2026 15:39

This song is all I can think of.

HaroldMeaker · 01/06/2026 15:39

I love it. I associate it with Jesse Owens who made hitler weep in the 1936 olympics by winning all the golds

Mum2Fergus · 01/06/2026 16:01

I’m in Scotland…calling someone jessie is derogatory…so personally wouldn’t - but you need to do you OP.

In the North Midlands, and it's a derogatory name here too. I wouldn't bestow that name on a boy. Sorry @Deeal
