I love this name but am so confused on how to spell it. Is it Macy? Maci? Mayci? Maycie? Maycee? Maycey? Macey? Macie? Everyone seems to have a different preference. Macy is the most common spelling I would assume, but it's not my favourite.

I only know of Macy Gray so would go with that. What is your favourite?

I like Macie, Maci, and Maycie but am assuming the spelling will need to be clarified no matter which one I choose.

As someone with a name that has at many spelling variations, please go for the simplest one. My parents didn't and it's a PITA.

HugoThatway · 28/05/2026 18:25

Maci-Lea is perfect. Go for it.
Maci-Lea?

Needmorelego · 28/05/2026 18:26

Macey or Macy are the 2 spellings I generally see.

Viviennemary · 28/05/2026 18:29

It's dire. But Macey is probably the best spelling.

Stoicandhappy · 28/05/2026 18:30

Macy like the shop?

Macy like the shop?

There was another thread recently about the name Macy and someone mentioned the shop.
I questioned "what shop" and was told "the American department store".
I have a feeling the vast majority of Brits will have never heard of Macy's Department store 🤷

Jellyofftheplate · 28/05/2026 18:46

Haven't heard of the shop. If spelling it I'd go for Macey but with little confidence. There are so many better names that won't be an ongoing headache of spelling it out. If you do go for a weird spelling, go for a short one so Maci not Maycee so at least it's fewer letters to shout down the phone.

HugoThatway · 28/05/2026 19:07

Macy's.

Needmorelego · 28/05/2026 19:14

HugoThatway · 28/05/2026 19:07

Yes but will the average Brit think about that connection?
I seriously doubt it.

I'd say Macy, Macey or Macie. I'd say majority would assume it's spelt Macy...thinking of Macy Gray or the shop. Such a cute little name regardless of spelling.

My own name can be spelt numerous ways. Go for the most obvious one...less likely for people to get it wrong.

Yes I know that simply because I am interested in retail history.
But most Brits probably have never heard of it.
It's a most dubious link to a name for a baby.
Would you tell someone they shouldn't use the name Zara or Mark "because of the shop"?

Firebird83 · 28/05/2026 20:23

Maisie is better. What about that?

Completely different name.
The OP isn't asking opinions on the name...just the best way to spell it.

ClassicalQueen · 28/05/2026 20:31

I’m sorry I think it’s horrid. However saying that the only person I know called Macey is vile.

I've never heard of a shop called Mark.

I've never heard of a shop called Mark.

It's usually followed by "and Spencer" 😁

HugoThatway · 28/05/2026 20:40

@Needmorelego , that's 'Marks & Spencer' not 'Mark'.

I would comment on Mason and Fortnum & Mason or Mason & Cash.
I know dozens of Marks but no Macy.

Or prefixed by "Pri" 🤣

Yes and the (oh so famous) American department store is "Macy's" not "Macy"
😁😁😁

Thebinisrightthere · 28/05/2026 20:45

Few Brits would think of Macy's department store. I quite like the name. Only know 2 people with that name and one of them was a one hit wonder

holdupp · 28/05/2026 20:51

However you spell it please don't end it with an i.

According to Google Macie is the most popular spelling in the UK followed by Macey and Macy.

I agree with considering Maisie, sounds very similar but doesn't have 101 possible spellings.

GrillaMilla · 28/05/2026 20:57

I only know one teenager with this name, Macey.
It's a lovely name. I like Marcia too which is similar I think.
