Mackenzie

Thoughts on Mackenzie for either gender? DH's name is Kenneth, so it has some meaning for us. We would do Mack as a NN for a boy and just the full name for a girl (unless a NN naturally developed).

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Lovely.

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 27/05/2026 16:33

Lovely name and goes well with your last name.

Around me it’s viewed as a girl name and most are nn Kenzie

LemonFlavour · 27/05/2026 16:43

The only problem that I predict with it is that it will be misspelt as "McKenzie" frequently. Other than that, it's lovely. Despite it not originating as one, I do view it as more of a feminine name.

Moveoverdarlin · 27/05/2026 16:44

Sorry I think it’s really chavvy.

followtheswallow · 27/05/2026 16:44

It’s very popular for girls in America. I think.

AgnesMcDoo · 27/05/2026 16:45

I really don’t like surnames as first names and Mack is particularly awful.

anonymous2134565 · 27/05/2026 16:46

Yes have agree it’s a awful name and a very chavvy names from the 90s

PermanentTemporary · 27/05/2026 16:47

I really like it. I think it does that difficult job of straddling classic, cool, rooted and modern. Very few names manage that.

midlifeattheoasis · 27/05/2026 16:50

I agree with others that it is very chavvy and particularly horrible as a girls name. Mack as a nickname is awful too

Favouritefruits · 27/05/2026 16:54

Really don’t like it, it’s up to you though, you probably would like my kids names. As long as you and the father like it that’s all that truly matters

Cassiemoomoo · 27/05/2026 16:54

OP where do you live? We have a Mac surname and are always having to spell Mac and not Mc as this is what people default to. You will spend your life telling people it is all one word, spelt Mac with a smallsmall k.

keepswimming38 · 27/05/2026 16:55

Named after the girl who killed those two guys by driving into a wall? Documentary on Netflix. No thanks!

youalright · 27/05/2026 16:55

I like it for a girl not so keen for a boy

LizardyGuts · 27/05/2026 16:55

I think a lot might depend on the area you live in OP.
Around here there are lots of actual MacKenzies, as in the surname. Nobody would ever use it as a first name as that would be really weird. Like someone in a different area calling their kid Kitchener, Woodward, or Jones.
But maybe if you live in a place where the surname MacKenzie isn't common, then it seems cute/exotic/interesting or whatever.

Come on she will will be completely forgotten about in a few weeks its only because the documentary has just been on

Loures · 27/05/2026 16:56

The full name is nice. Kenzie and Kenz sound bratty, though. I would stick to avoiding those shortenings. I don't think it's even popular enough here to be considered chavvy.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/05/2026 16:58

Mac means son of so I really don't like it as a girl's name. But it is one so don't call a boy that.

ForPinkDuck · 27/05/2026 16:58

They would be judged with that name.

Skybluepinky · 27/05/2026 17:00

It was popular in the 90’s and most of those have now got kids called Arlo.

I actually think it's nice, however I know 3 Mackenzie's (all teen girls all live in local council estates - no judgement we live in a council house too). So it's kind of like Jayden, Paris etc where I live, might be totally different where you live. They all actually go by Kenzie though not the full name. Not trying to put you off I do think it's a nice name.

user293948849167 · 27/05/2026 17:08

Hate it, sorry

muddyford · 27/05/2026 17:10

Dreadful. Sorry.

Very similar where we live too. It was popular in the 2000s.

BrownRedPink · 27/05/2026 17:11

I'll be honest. It makes me think of a girl who would become a teen mum. I can't picture it on a boy but do really like Mack.
