Mackenzie

Thoughts on Mackenzie for either gender? DH's name is Kenneth, so it has some meaning for us. We would do Mack as a NN for a boy and just the full name for a girl (unless a NN naturally developed).

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MyCottageGarden · 27/05/2026 17:11

my daughter is called Mackenzie and it really suits her! We call her Kenz or Kenzie sometimes. I can’t imagine her being named anything else!

BrownRedPink · 27/05/2026 17:11

I'll be honest. It makes me think of a girl who would become a teen mum. I can't picture it on a boy but do really like Mack.

Well that says more about the type of person you are, than it does about the name.

Monty36 · 27/05/2026 17:12

I don’t like it no. Surnames as first names in general. Or place names come to that. There are some beautiful names. Mackenzie is a surname.

Dreadful. Sorry.

Did it never occur to you that some people might be on here with a child with that name? Or that name themselves? There’s no need for such nastiness

DemonsandMosquitoes · 27/05/2026 17:13

Oh no.

It’s direct but it isn’t nasty.

It was a post that literally asked what people thought of the name!

It didn't ask for positive responses only.

followtheswallow · 27/05/2026 17:15

the PIP / teen mum / chav comments are nasty, ‘dreadful’ isn’t.

Sorry but it wasn’t originally! Historically it was a Scottish first name then centuries later, it became a surname.

Life's hard wear a helmet.

It's like Paige, or Anything-Mae, or Lexie.

Disability hate speech is illegal. For a reason. And you’re trying to justify it?! Whoa that’s low

twilightermummy · 27/05/2026 17:19

Sorry I loathe it. Although I'm not 100% sure if that's because I knew a chavvy teenage boy with that name and he was a nightmare so the name has been marred for me.

manovertheroad · 27/05/2026 17:19

@MyCottageGarden - really? In a discussion forum where someone has asked an opinion, surely it is ok to say ‘no it’s dreadful’ (which quite a few have said tbf) without - gasp! - offending someone who might like it?! How have we got this fucking soft?? I could not give one shit if someone online doesn’t like my name or my children’s names - and if I have ASKED for an opinion, then surely I expect to get some people with different views to my own?

the world has gone fucking mad. And for what it’s worth, I don’t like it as a name as to me it’s a surname not a first name (see also Harper, Cooper, etc)

It's tongue in cheek, nothing more.

Stop finding a reason to be offended.

jsgahoencake · 27/05/2026 17:20

Mackenzie is very c2000 Chav, I’m surprised it’s had a fairly balanced response though! Wasn’t there a cheap sports brand with that name in the 00s? Maybe that’s why my head goes to Chav (I’m sorry I know it’s not a nice word but it’s genuinely the first word that comes to mind).

I didn't know that. Interesting!

I like mackenzie as a first name. Some dreadful classist responses here as per.

Again, hate speech is not “tongue in cheek”. Making ‘jokes’ at the expense of acutely disabled people has never been accepted nor “tongue in cheek”

Linky? I was always told the Mac names are surnames.

Dizzydrizzy · 27/05/2026 17:24

Genuinely terrible.

CieloElmers · 27/05/2026 17:25

I like Mackenzie, also could consider Mckenna for a girl

KerryWeaversSpecs · 27/05/2026 17:29

I like it. As for it being chavvy, I dare you to tell JK Rowling that!

dizzydizzydizzy · 27/05/2026 17:30

I like traditional names like Elizabeth and James. I also prefer names that are obviously boy or girl. However, what I like is irrelevant here because it is your child, so if you like it OP, go for it.
