Could anyone help with deciding between our shortlist of names please. We're down to Susannah, Melody, Rosa and Esther.

Rosa is a good name, or Susannah - I don't like Sue or Susie, but Suki is nice.
Not keen on the other two.

mathanxiety · 23/05/2026 00:01

Susannah by a country mile.

Melody is lovely.

Esther makes me think of polyester.
Rose is a very fusty name imo.

mathanxiety · 23/05/2026 00:03

Sorry, I misread - Rosa is much nicer than Rose. I'd still put it in third place behind Susannah and Melody all the same.

HopefulYankee · 23/05/2026 00:20

I really like all those names, even Melody! Sorry I’m not much help

7238SM · 23/05/2026 00:23

Susannah- I like but she will forever be spelling it out and having it spelt wrong! Suzanna, Susana, Susanna etc. I say this as someone with a 4 letter name which isn't difficult!

Melody- I prefer Melanie or Meloney

Rosa- I like

Esther- Sorry, I hate it. I don't know if its the sound of the word or the meaning. Reminds me of fester. I also recall making Esters in chemistry (compounds derived from acids).

I love Suki ,my granddaughter was so close to being given that name . I like Melody,it’s a really positive name.

All fine names.
My favourite is Susanna. 10/10
Then Rosa 9, Melody 7 and Esther 7.
I also like Aster 9 (the flower).

Suki is cute. Susanna Kitty. Suki
I like Suzie too.

Favourite is Suzannah. Don’t like Melody. For me Rosa is a duck in a series of Louise Penny novels ( but she is a nice duck!)

luckylavender · 23/05/2026 07:02

Like all except Melody

Hopefulsalmon · 23/05/2026 07:06

Susannah is lovely. Rosa is nice, don't like Esther and really don't like Melody.

csg376 · 23/05/2026 07:08

Susannah / Suki is beautiful!

I also like Rosa and Esther.

ValenciaOrangeJawline · 23/05/2026 07:08

Susannah and Esther are lovely (oddly, it doesn’t make me think of chemistry and it probably should - perhaps because I knew the name before the functional group…). Melody is pretty. Rose names are a bit over-used, but Rosa is still pretty.

All of them seem like strong names to me, which is good. Can’t be doing with frilly names!

HellsBells13 · 23/05/2026 07:11

There's a content creator couple Melody and Jew (Jewoo Korean) . She is french so when she says her name it's sounds sophisticated. I vote for Melody

Susannah is lovely. Susie is a great nickname.

I’ve never warmed to Esther; for some reason it makes me think of old fashioned anaesthetic.

🤣

DisplayPurposesOnly · 23/05/2026 08:09

I prefer Hester to Esther.

LivingTheThighLife · 23/05/2026 08:10

I love Melody.

Ikeameatballs · 23/05/2026 08:11

Susannah, love it!

KnitWitsAnonymous · 23/05/2026 08:13

Susannah ~ lovely, lots of options for shortened versions

Melody ~ not keen, sorry

Esther ~ very nice as long as you don't live in Leicester (Esther from Leicester!)

Rosa ~ nice but I much prefer Rosanna

Gateappreciation · 23/05/2026 08:14

Susannah or Melody. Rosa is lovely, but Rose/Rosie and other variations have been very popular recently.

Marmalademorning · 23/05/2026 08:15

Esther reminds me too much of Esther Rantzen. Rosa is lovely.

lottiegarbanzo · 23/05/2026 08:19

Melody seems really different to the others, far less classic.

Thanks 😊 Not in Leicester, (or Chester!) So that's ok!

Is Susanna or Susannah the more common spelling?

That’s ether.

It makes me think of the monomer that makes polyester.

Esther, love it
Melody definitely no
Susannah is nice with Susie as a nickname
Prefer Rose to Rosa
