Thoughts on Rupert?

I really like the name Rupert. It’s been a name that’s I’m liking more and more.

I’m aware it’s quite a marmite name and I’m not sure if it would bother me if family/friends didn’t like it.

I don’t think it’s an awful name, but it does conjure an image of a red trouser wearing Henley Regatta attendee to me.

I think Rupert is very cute!!

I've always really liked this name, but just having heard loud-mouthed club bore Rupert Lowe on the radio I fear it will acquire some awful associations now.😫

I don't like it, personally.

Its reception will probably depend on your location. Is it popular in your area? Then no problem. But I live in Ireland and it's rarely used here (I've never met one) so I think it would be considered a "hoity-toity" name in a classroom full of boys with names like Jack and Cian.

I used to work with a certain posh middle class supermarket chain, and something like 60% of the marketing senior leadership team at the time was called Rupert. Make of that what you will.

Personally, I quite like it as a name but it would have felt too ‘formal’ for me to use myself.

I think it’s lovely. It reminds me of Rupert the bear. I used to read it with my grandpa so to me the name seems ageless.

Ru is a nice diminutive but I prefer it for Rufus as Rupert is a bit red trousers

When I hear Rupert and think 90 year old man.

Not a baby name or child name for me.

I'm not massively keen on it but do think it's funny all these people saying it's a wet lettuce name, clearly not readers of Riders etc in their formative years!

It’s seems to have become a lot more popular in recent years, it’s in the top 100 now so maybe that will mean less negative associations as it has become more ‘normal’. I quite like it.
