We really like this name, however, worried it sounds too girly. What are your thoughts?

Anyone know of any boys with this name?

Short for Laurence/Lawrence, yes. On its own, no, not come across it.
All versions are nice!

Hatty65 · 24/04/2026 19:16

Yep. It's a family name for us, I had an Uncle Lawrie, also nn of Lol.

MidnightPatrol · 24/04/2026 19:16

Love it as a nickname for Laurence / Lawrence

chunkymarmalade · 24/04/2026 19:18

I love it, and it was on our shortlist (as a shortened Laurence).

JMSA · 24/04/2026 19:19

I like it … for once! I’ve read many horrendous names on here 😆

JMSA · 24/04/2026 19:20

I don’t like Laurence/Lawrence though.

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 24/04/2026 19:20

Sarah Beeny has a Laurie.

I quite like it.

EmeraldSlippers · 24/04/2026 19:21

Makes me think of Little Woman 😍(although a quick google tells me that his full name was Theodore Laurence)

permanently · 24/04/2026 19:22

Love Laurie/Lawrie. Excellent taste OP!

Peonies12 · 24/04/2026 19:23

Ive only known boy Laurie’s, I like it! Don’t bother with Laurence though, dont understand giving a longer name you plan to shorten

WhatAMarvelousTune · 24/04/2026 19:29

I like it, and wouldn’t think it was a girls’ name.

However, I get why you think it might read as one, names with ie at the end tend to be girls name more often (not always). If it’s a worry of yours, only you know whether it will bother you, and maybe I wouldn’t use the name if you have another that you like.

If you’re interested in preferences, I’d go Laurie, not Lawrie.

RegalDiamondMonster · 24/04/2026 19:53

I've only ever known male Lauries in the UK, short for Laurence. I knew an older female Canadian Laurie, maybe in Canada it's female? But in the UK I'd always assume a boy.

Calliopespa · 24/04/2026 19:57

I quite like it.

I know what you mean in that it is a little like Laura or Lauren, but it is a boys' name.

HoldMyWine · 24/04/2026 19:58

Love it, reminds me of Laurie from little women . I like Laurence too, a classic name.

SixAndJuliet · 24/04/2026 19:58

I really like Laurie and Laurence. Not keen on the w spelling.

HoldMyWine · 24/04/2026 19:59

I prefer it spelt with a u

FancyGoose · 24/04/2026 20:01

I have always loved it. I would go Laurence, nn Laurie. Reminds me of Little Women too!

"Laurie Laurence, what a peculiar name!'" Jo often calls him Teddy. I have a feeling the boys at school called him Dora and he fought them.
I think Laurie is great and I'm not usually a fan of shortened names.

YellowRoom · 24/04/2026 20:07

I love it - have known two male Laurie's. And one female.

Firebird83 · 24/04/2026 20:12

I like Laurie short for Laurence. Reminds me of Laurie Lee and Cider with Rosie.

RaininSummer · 24/04/2026 20:15

I have loved this name ever since I read Little Women as a kid.

TwelvePinkDolphins · 24/04/2026 20:18

Love it! Going against the others on the thread I prefer Lawrie. Also like Lowry.

Mrspatmoresapprentice · 24/04/2026 20:23

I had a client named Lawrie. Nicest man ever. He, and his wife, are probably the nicest, most genuine people I have ever met. I’d call my son Lawrie.

Doje · 24/04/2026 20:23

I love Lawrie / Lawrence. We were going to use it but when DS was actually born I couldn't quite see it. I like the name for a grown up but not a baby. Obviously I understand that all old Lawries were once baby Lawries, I just couldn't do it.

IsaacBenabram · 24/04/2026 20:25

I don't like it. It sounds like Lorry.
