We really like this name, however, worried it sounds too girly. What are your thoughts?

Anyone know of any boys with this name?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Love it, reminds me of Laurie from little women . I like Laurence too, a classic name.

Agree with this completely! Do it. It was on my list but DH vetoed it.

Ive only known boy Laurie’s, I like it! Don’t bother with Laurence though, dont understand giving a longer name you plan to shorten

Laurie with birth certificate name Laurence. People give a longer name that they don't plan to use to give the kid options later in life. Because choosing a childs name is not just about what the parents want, it's about what will best serve the child.

SwedishEdith · 24/04/2026 20:55

It's a family name in one branch of my family. Lawrence spelling. I'm really fond of it. I think they became Larry rather than Lawrie though and I love Larry.

PurpleNightingale · 24/04/2026 20:57

I know a Laurie (boy). It is a nice name on him, warm and approachable. If it was short for Laurence he certainly never used it! Lawrie looks really odd to me though.

Giraffehaver · 24/04/2026 22:26

It's a great name and the Laurie I used to work with was wickedly witty and not girly in any way!

PippiLongStockingsPigtails · 24/04/2026 22:29

I really like it. Reminds me also of Little
Women and Hugh Laurie. Lovely name.

Notellinganyone · 24/04/2026 22:31

I love this. Little Women was one of my favourite books. I would go for full name though and use it as a nickname.

user2848502016 · 24/04/2026 22:32

No not girly, I like it
I would spell is Lawrie

Yellowsubmarineunderthesea · 24/04/2026 22:35

I must be the only one who hasn't read Little Women! I instantly thought it was very girly sounding. Sorry. OP but my 30 yr old ds laughed when I asked him if he knew anyone or would like the name for a fella.

MelancholiaOrRaving · 24/04/2026 22:38

I love it. First thing that came to mind was Laurie Lee, Cider with Rosie.

puppyparent · 24/04/2026 23:52

Are Laurie and Lawrie pronounced the same?

mathanxiety · 25/04/2026 04:55

There are hundreds of thousands of women aged 55 to 65 in the US named Lori, Laurie, and Lorie.

sesquipedalian · 25/04/2026 07:05

My best friend’s father was a Laurie, but professionally always Laurence. If you call your DC the full name, you give them the choice. And I much prefer the spelling Laurence, which reflects its origins from Laurentius (crowned with laurel) derived from the Latin laurus, which represents honour and achievement.

user1492757084 · 25/04/2026 07:13

A big YES to Laurence.

LlynTegid · 25/04/2026 07:14

Laurie as less likely to have a lifetime of having to spell it out to others.

Are Laurie and Lawrie pronounced the same?

Yes, they are. They are just alternative spellings.

Our little boy is Laurie, we love his name and have had so many positive comments. Haven’t met another yet (he’s 3!).

EmbarrassmentLovesCompany · 25/04/2026 22:43

I know 2 Laurie's (a M and a F), a Lawrence (m) and Laurence (F - not British).

I woukdn't make any assumptions about M/F or if was short for anything.

patooties · 25/04/2026 22:44

Love it. I know two little ones.

thaisweetchill · 25/04/2026 23:01

My nephew is called Laurie and I love it, I see it as a boys name

deadpantrashcan · 25/04/2026 23:11

I’m good friends with a girl called Lori. Have only known one other Laurie, and he was a guy.

emeraldrainbow · 08/05/2026 20:38

Thanks for all the feedback! Very helpful

Laurence is the feminine version of Laurent

I know several women called Laurence.

The reason that people consider giving their child the full name version of any name, is to give the child the maximum choice of which version to use in the future.

That in turn could potentially be important when they choose their career of choice in the future, something that would be impossible to predict at birth!
Their career path could be one that favours full, traditional names.

Like Laurie Taylor? I like it
