Dorothy!

My friend had a little girl yesterday. She is beautiful!

Her name is Dorothy. And her middle name is one I've not heard anyone named who was born in my lifetime - Julie!

I just think it is so cute. A lovely example of older names coming back, not off the wall, just really sweet.

Love Julie.
Not so keen on Dorothy.

Turnitoffnonagain · 22/04/2026 12:31

She may end up as Dot or Dotty. I like it.
I had a lovely glamorous Aunt Dorothy, she was beautiful, funny and always had a little sweetie in her pocket for me. 🩷
Julie is a French name, all the Julie's I've known have been nice.

PolkaDotPorridge · 22/04/2026 12:32

I love Dorothy! Dot and Dotty.

Eastereggschocolateisthebest · 22/04/2026 12:32

I love dorothea

Booksandsea · 22/04/2026 12:36

I know a 3 year old called Julie, it really suits her!

RaininSummer · 22/04/2026 12:45

I met a young Dorothy known as Dora recently. She was a cool young woman. It was my Nan's name too.

NamingNoNames · 22/04/2026 13:25

Lovely.

PippaToryFripp · 22/04/2026 13:45

Awful especially Julie

MaggieBsBoat · 22/04/2026 13:46

Oh I love Dorothy!

Weirdconditionaltense · 22/04/2026 13:57

I like both names. Proper traditional sounding names.

OhWise1 · 22/04/2026 14:03

I meet a lot of chikdren on my linebof work and have seen quite a few Dorothys of ks1 age

ToadRage · 22/04/2026 14:06

I like Julie but prefer Julia or Juliet. I hate Dorothy, its very old fashioned and while I see older names coming back e.g. Arthur, Evelyn, this is not one I have heard yet. I did meet a Dora recently (Arthur's sister) which I quite like.

HappyInTheSea · 22/04/2026 14:48

Dick and Angel Strawbridge's daughter is called Dorothy. I love it and especially like Julie.

PippaToryFripp · 22/04/2026 13:45

Awful especially Julie

Why are they awful?

Rincoe · 22/04/2026 15:00

I don’t think that they go particularly well together - but I am delighted for you and your friend and a safe and happy birth!

Anon501178 · 22/04/2026 15:58

Definitely not keen on Julie :-/ Julia not so bad or Juliet
Don't like Dorothy but Dottie is cute

The baby is named after grandma and great grandma.

I've met a couple of young Dorothys and a Dorothea. Not my favourite, I really like Julie though.

Bunnyofhope · 22/04/2026 17:15

They are both brilliant!

GoldenPineapple15 · 22/04/2026 17:18

wildgreyseas · 22/04/2026 17:29

I love Dorothy as a name with Dottie as a nickname

Firebird83 · 22/04/2026 17:36

Dorothy is coming back. There’s one at DD’s nursery too. I like it!

user2848502016 · 22/04/2026 17:44

I love it, Dot/Dotty are cute nicknames too
Not as keen on Julie, but as a middle name it’s fine
Prefer Julia/Juliet

RinielUrban · 22/04/2026 19:16

We actually met a beautiful little Dot today 4 months old and full name Dorothea

bruffin · 22/04/2026 19:22

My DGM was Dorothy and my DM had Dorothy as a middle name. DGM was known as Doll or Dolly to her friends. I think I prefer Theodora which is essentially the same name (gift of the gods) but in reverse
