Gosh this takes me back. I recently found a notebook of baby names I had written in Y9 and was slightly horrified:

Paco Rabann
Toyota Turcell
Diesel Jay

I didn't seem to have any girls names but always liked Susanna.

Thankfully my DC got much more ordinary names.

Arlanymor · 20/04/2026 17:27

Pretty much all the names of the Getalong Gang. So Montgomery, Portia, Rudyard, Flora… probably would have drawn the line at Catchem Crocodile…

Daffodilsinthespring · 20/04/2026 17:28

Keely
Kylie
Kayleigh.

this was about 1980

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 20/04/2026 17:30

Heidi and Christina for girls
Kieran and Gethyn for boys

My children's names bear absolutely no relation to any of these names. I have no idea what name demon possessed me when I was twelve but fortunately it left me before my kids were born.

I remember I liked Saffron and, inexplicably, Romancia 🤣 At one stage I thought Carmen and Jane would be the perfect names for twins. Could be worse!

ilovepixie · 20/04/2026 17:39

I was going to have a boy called Daniel and a girl called Vanessa. I didn’t have any human children!

HopeP · 20/04/2026 17:41

Oceania

NobodysChildNow · 20/04/2026 17:42

Matilda
Rosemary
Alison

I had no intention of bearing a son!

PinkOrchard · 20/04/2026 17:42

Oh gosh - I was 100% convinced on the names Amethyst, Sapphire, Chelsea, Judd, Fletcher and Bella as an early teen 🤣

inthekitchensink · 20/04/2026 17:45

I thought Cassandra and Chantelle were Very sophisticated and I’m still fond of Cassie as a name, and for no reason I can think of I adored the name Alison Confused A perfectly nice normal name but I was mad about it and always chose it as my name in all our games

Nara2k · 20/04/2026 17:46

Conor and Kay, and there was a third one but I can't recall. My actual kids names bear no resemblance to these, in the first case because every second boy in Ireland in the early 2000s was called Conor

Alisonjayne8 · 20/04/2026 17:46

Crystal, and I wish I had called her it as it would have stood out now, instead, she has a nice, if boring name.

StillFeelingTired · 20/04/2026 17:48

Sage, page and Ezekiel

I always wanted Skyla for a girl 🤨 ended up with 2 boys

Judd and fletcher- were/are you a McFly fan 😁

Calliopespa · 20/04/2026 18:30

Anastasia - after Anastasia Romanov. I loved their dresses!

Shithotlawyer · 20/04/2026 18:33

I was going to have twins calles Violet and Hazel and sometimes other children who had names with é on the end - like Charité, Melodé and so on. I don't think i knew how it was pronounced or how to use e acute - I think it was sort of "Eighhhhhh"

Flashback: I wanted triplet girls called Poppy, Connie and I can't recall the third name, but I used to give them a lot of thought and they were the perfect children with red corkscrew curls.

Yes I'm mortified! This notebook was formulated during a French class where the teacher didn't do any teaching and we were left to our own devices and the girl beside me came up with the baby names ideas. She was obsessed with the Jackson 5 and was going to name her DC after them. She has 2 DC now and I'm pleased to report they have very traditional names.

When my DD was in upper primary school she was obsessed with the names Barbara and Deirdre and she used them in all her games and fictional teaching role. I really hope these will not be my future granddaughters.

Littletreefrog · 20/04/2026 19:12

Ryder for a boy and Melody for a girl.

I've only ever known boy Skyler's

TurnipsAndParsnips · 20/04/2026 19:15

Patsy Alice
Portia Scarlett
Joshua Harvey
Henry Theodore

This was in the 1970s, when none of these names were fashionable.

Deadringer · 20/04/2026 19:17

When I was about 13 I loved the names Brandon and Clint. Weird.
