My favourite of your bunch is Charlotte but only as you can shorten it to Lottie - a name I love, apart from the fact that people may drop the t sound when they say it! I'm 32 wks pg with dd and am constantly on the lookout for new name ideas. Faves at the moment are Arabella Rose and Annabel Rose. I've already got 2 DSs so am going for girlie in a big way!

Jojay · 19/06/2008 13:01

Laaaayyyylaaaaa, dum dum dum etc etc. I assume!!

Love Arabella and Annabel too - and DH wants Rose as a middle name!!

I love ivy. Its really pretty! If Noah was a girl i was going to call him Gabriella.
They are all lovely, but Ivy and Gabriella are my favesxxx

MuffinMclay · 19/06/2008 13:21

I think Poison Ivy, sorry.

Love Charlotte and Elizabeth.

PersephoneSnape · 19/06/2008 13:24

my mum was an ivy - it's quite a nice quaint old fashioned name - but there are some negative connotations - how about as a middle name? charlotte Ivy? Elizabeth Ivy?

Nancy66 · 19/06/2008 13:43

I like Ivy - although it does make me think of that trout pouted harridan from Coronation Street.

I like Elizabeth from the other selection but none of the others.

Miyazaki · 19/06/2008 13:52

I like Ivy. yummy

SoupKitchen · 19/06/2008 14:00

love it

princessmel · 19/06/2008 14:03

I love Ivy

Whenever I mention it to anyone they say ' oh no, poison Ivy'

Not keen on Gabby at all but like Gabriella

Layla can come out sounding a bit um, not sure of the word.

Anna , Elizabeth and Charlotte are nice but too safe for me.

MummyAnnabella · 19/06/2008 14:16

prefer charlotte or anna. i too think of old hag ivy from corrie. what about Lily?

Jojay · 19/06/2008 14:30

Not so keen on Lily, don't know why.

Oh yes I do, my horrible old boss called his daughter Lily!!!

greenelizabeth · 19/06/2008 14:33

I like it but I don't love it.

I like the style of it more than I like the sound of it.

From your list I like Elizabeth with Eliza or Libby for short, Anna, and maybe Annabel with Anna or Anya for short, and Charlotte but only if you use nn Lottie. Charlotte is too 80s for me. I can't believe it's still hanging around in the top ten. Lottie is gorgeous though.

Leila is lovely but blends in a little with Lily, Lola, Lila, Ella... Very 'of the moment' kind of a name. Still pretty though.

greenelizabeth · 19/06/2008 14:34

Ps, forgot Gabriela, I like that too. Not wild about Gabby. It's very feisty but not that pretty but I would rather come across a Gabby than an Ella. Ella sweet but a tiny bit weak-sounding (only when I'm over analysing, do't mean to offend all the Ellas' Mums)

Jojay · 19/06/2008 14:42

Mmmm.

I'm not so keen on Lottie as a nickname for Charlotte - it's a bit cutesy for me ( no offence to other Lottie lovers, just my opinion) I prefer Charlie I think.

If I went for Elizabeth I think she'd be a Beth or a Lizzie. I love Eliza but I know she'd end up as Liza, which is not so nice.

Agree about Ella - not so keen on that.

I don't even know what sex this baby is yet ( should find out tomorrow,at 20 wk scan hopefully, but my mind is spinning with ideas.)

DS is Jasper. I like names that are a bit unusual but not so obscure that the poor child will spend half it's life spelling it out to people, IYSWIM.

BTW I know some of the names I've listed aren't that unusual......

Any other ideas for me????

OP posts:
greenelizabeth · 19/06/2008 15:41

I love Jasper. Right... so what goes with Jasper?

Something classic eccentric I think.

Phoebe, Lois, Margot, Nancy, Belinda, Mabel, Meredith, Vivien, Paloma, Cordelia, Florence, Violet, Penelope (with Polly for short?).

Are you taking out your pencil for even some of these suggestions?

A brother for Jasper would be Victor. Victor and Jasper.

I know most people aren't ready for Victor yet. Get in there quickly.

psssst - GreenElizabeth - stop suggesting Paloma - it's DDs name and I'd prefer not to popularise it

Tabitha is good with Jasper. From GE's list I always love Mabel and think Margot is ripe for a revival.

How about Sid for a boy? For some reason Jasper and Sid appeals to me. Or if you want more unusual how about Inigo (be warned it is around 1500 on the name popularity list at the mo but I think it is soaring up).

greenelizabeth · 19/06/2008 16:00

Ha ha. Ok, will not ever mention it again. That word that is Spanish for Dove. [mouth zipped shut]
