Twin girls: ideas for a sister name to go with Caroline

Gentlegiraffe10 · 08/04/2026 13:30

Hi everyone,
I gave birth to twin girls yesterday morning! We didn’t find out the gender before they were born and so we haven’t decided what to call them yet, and as they are currently in NICU due to being prem I have a lot of time on my hands to chose the most perfect names.
One of them will be Caroline (this was DH’s mums name who tragically died earlier this year) as we want to honour DH’s mum and I love the name.
However we can’t think of another girls name that goes with Caroline and that we both like.
The middle names will be Elizabeth and then possibly either Sarah, Emily or Kate.
Any ideas are so welcome!
Thank you x

I think you need to use Sarah for the other twin as Caroline Sarah would have both the significant names.

Agree that Caroline is a gorgeous name and sounds very fresh and sophisticated these days.

Id go Caroline Emily and Elizabeth Sarah.

Would definitely avoid matching initials for twins - they need their own identities as much as possible.

To keep the direct family connection with second twin would a female derivative of one of the grandparents be an option?

Use Caroline as a middle name for both or you are singling out one to be the special one.

Agree! Nicer to honour her with the middle names rather than one have it as a first name. I’m also not sure it’s that ideal to name baby after tragic recently passed away person as their first name. Feels rather heavy for a new baby! Middle names much nicer and fairer for both twins.

Twin 1 Caroline Emily
Twin 2 Elizabeth Sarah/Kate

edit - just saw your update. Use Caroline and Sarah as middle names to honour both your mums. Emma Caroline and Elizabeth Sarah

Edited

Also missed the update, this idea is perfect - one granny middle name for each daughter and then free to choose the first names you like and that suit each new baby.

Congratulations on your new daughters! Such a special time. Hopefully you get to take them home very soon :)

im another who thinks Sarah goes well with Caroline and it would be lovely to honour both grannies.

Congratulations on the birth of your twins! Lovely but hard work! Are they identical? Sorry to hear of your loss though and that you mil didn’t get to see her granddaughters xxx

Caroline and Felicity

Verity, Vivienne or Josephine

I know twins Caroline and Felicity and it has been a perfect pairing!

I would do Caroline Emily and Felicity Elizabeth.

Doesn't matter that Felicity doesn't get her GM's name as felicity means happiness!

I know twins Caroline and Felicity and it has been a perfect pairing!
The thing I'd consider is the combined length. 'Caroline and Felicity' is 8 syllables compared with 'The Twins', and I think it's best to not call them 'The Twins'.

The ones I know are always Caroline and Felicity.

I have known other Felicitys who are Fliss, Flick, Flicka and Fissy. Also know a Felickety!

I know a few Carolines but cannot think any of them shorten it...

Congratulations. Nice to see the name Caroline again. Love the classic suggestions already and want to add Rachel as another idea. Don't think it has been mentioned yet. Caroline and Rachel.
