Hey! Would be great to get some feedback on these names...

(We have Scandi and Welsh family hence some of the choices.)

...which one is nicer?

I like Flora and Eira

HoorayHattie · 14/02/2026 20:22

In order of preference I like

Eira
Ida
Flora
Greta

Flora. Not keen on the others, especially Ida (could sound like a sentence depending on your surname).

YSianiFlewog · 14/02/2026 20:35

I like Greta and Eira, not keen on Eira if born in summer months, seems wrong somehow.

Pettenell · 15/02/2026 06:06

It was hard for me to choose between Greta and Flora - both are names that I love and would love to see more of. Eira is ok, but a lot like the very popular Isla and Aria. Ida is also nice enough, but has 2 different pronunciations which puts me off a bit - Ee-da and Eye-da.

vaginal flora? not for me

HopSpringsEternal · 15/02/2026 08:02

Flora always makes me think of cows, and the old classic joke about hwe being an easy shag as she likes "spreading them".

Love Greta.

HudALledrith · 15/02/2026 10:51

Flora or Greta.

Ida will be 'Eye-duh' not 'Ee-da'
Eira will be 'Eye-ruh' unless your Welsh relatives say it using the Welsh word's pronunciation.

I like Flora, Greta and Ida (Eda pronounciation), so I voted for Flora as I like that the best.

starfire88 · 15/02/2026 13:49

My vote went for Eira, but Ida was a close second choice.

HudALledrith · 15/02/2026 14:07

Some pretty names. I wouldn’t want my daughter to share the name of noted antisemite, Greta Thunberg, though.

Rockyhorrors · 16/02/2026 13:45

Flora

TempsPerdu · 16/02/2026 18:34

Had to pick Greta as that’s DD’s name (nothing to do with Thunberg; we just loved it), but I really like Flora as well - agree that they’re both names that we should see more of!

Eira is pretty but I think would get lost among similar sounding on-trend names like Isla, and ditto Ida with Ivy, Ada etc.

Why on earth would Flora make you think of vaginas? There are so many contexts in which the word flora comes up ...

7238SM · 16/02/2026 20:34

Eira- I'm not familiar with it and would guess its pronounced Eye-ra? If so, I like it.
Ida- I'd pronounce it Eye-da. Makes me think of an older lady but maybe due a come back
Flora- first though is margarine. I prefer Fleur, but that is neither Scandi nor Welsh
Greta- I do like as a name but not the connection with Thunberg

I also like Ingrid and Freyja. A Swedish friend has Hilma and Astrid.

Firebird83 · 16/02/2026 21:38

I love Flora

user1492757084 · 17/02/2026 03:13

I chose Greta due to knowing a lovely young woman called Greta.

HudALledrith · 17/02/2026 09:45

@7238SM , the Norse name is more like Eye-rah.
The Welsh word is more like Eyr-ah.

There will probably be several posters saying the Welsh name is Eye-ruh, but that's an anglicised pronunciation.

(The 'Eye' sound rarely occurs in Welsh other than the last/only syllable of words.)
