Heey!

We are a Nordic/English family and have a daughter called Agnes.

We are expecting another girl, but can't agree on a girls name that works in both regions. Please help!!

We like the following...

Agnes & Eira
Agnes & Astrid
Agnes & Asta

My DD is Enid and if we'd had another, she'd have been Agnes. 😂

I like Eira OP, the others are lovely names but a bit matchy.

I love Agnes and have an Astrid so that’s my vote!

CruCru · 15/05/2025 12:35

I like Astrid (everyone will have some idea of how to pronounce it) but will it be annoying for your daughters to both get post addressed to Miss A Surname?

CruCru · 15/05/2025 12:36

How would you pronounce Eira?

Tulipsontoast · 15/05/2025 12:40

I love Astrid although not sure on it with Agnes.

What about Frida?

InPrinciple · 15/05/2025 12:42

Love Astrid…but to ‘A’ initials can be difficult.

Elsie?

How would you pronounce Eira?

We would pronounce it "Eye-ra" 🙂
This name is currently no. 47 most popular girls name in Norway and no. 83 in Sweden.

Edith?

Yes, love Edith, but think I prefer Eira as it has stronger Norse links (she was a Norse godess) 🙂

I think Eira is beautiful. Gorgeous, strong name.

Love Enid, would have gladly used this name but it is not very well-known in the Nordic countries. Glad you like Agnes! 😜
Agree that Asta and Astrid are a bit matchy...
thanks!!

Margot

Love Margot, but it sounds quite harsh in Norwegian/Swedish...almost like "Marr-ggot"...

This is partly what I am worried about, that Miss A Surname will be a bit matchy... also don't want to be stuck on "A" in case we have any more children 😂

Agnes and Astrid is gorgeous! The only issue is the A initial thing that they’d both be Miss A surname which may be confusing for post etc.

I don’t have much experience on what works in Norwegian/ Swedish but here are some suggestions.

Agnes and Mabel
Agnes and Ida
Agnes and Saskia
Agnes and Elsie
Agnes and Orla
Agnes and Roma
Agnes and Etta
Agnes and Della
Agnes and Ruby
Agnes and Ella
Agnes and Zara
Agnes and Nola
Agnes and Freya
Agnes and Livi
Agnes and Vera
Agnes and Evie
Agnes and Eva
