What are the current “naughty boy/girl” names?

i know there’s been threads like this done before I read some from 20 years ago when I was a kid myself. Obviously baby naming has changed a lot since then.
Because there will undoubtedly be someone who says this is mean spirited then this is your warning to not bother reading it.

I’m curious to see if my kids names come up because they did on a few of the old threads 😂. Comments from teachers especially welcome

Neveah and Angel - just rebelling against the meaning of their names surely ? :)

I laughed at this because sometimes it's so true. My kids class has a child with clearly violent behavioural problems called Placid...

hufflepuffbutrequestinggriffindor · 28/01/2026 20:02

Lyle
Ryley/Ryley
Brandon
Kyle
Kayden
Kian
Jack

Obviously stereotypes but scarily accurate stereotypes!
Btw I’m a teacher and I had a nightmare naming my son!

CaffeineAndChords · 28/01/2026 20:13

Every Freddie I know is utterly feral.

dontforgettofloss · 28/01/2026 20:15

I have a 14 year old Theo, I can confirm he’s a PITA! 😂

Ruby

I think that the last time I met a Ruby was 1976. Mind you, she was one of the school bullies.

Oliver!

Because by the law of averages they MUST be the naughtiest because there's so fucking many of them!

I think I've only ever come across one in Scotland.

My Theo is an angel! Like actually perfect child! My other son though not so much 😩😩😩😩

The only Theo I knew was a Kirk Elder.

Vladimir

I have one in my family. He's quite a quiet lad.

No Chardonnay?

I've never come across one in Scotland.

We had a girl whose name was spelt like the male version of the name: I'll not give it here, but something like "Martin" when it was actually pronounced "Martine".

Any time a member of staff got it wrong (usually because they were taking the class for the first time) the parent wrote an email of complaint to the school.

The SLT did send emails round the school, but these weren't always seen if a teacher was on supply.

The last time it was "You pronounced it like a boy's name. Get it right! It's not hard!"

Race has entered the chat...

Every single Kayden I've met has been of white Scottish heritage.

I don't really understand this thread but there's a fantastic mine of names for anyone expecting. Surely every name ever is on here?

Oh, we've not had many of the names from my dad's side of the family...

I can't really imagine anyone in the UK wanting to use some of those, however, and racism has nowt to do with it.

I've seen similar discussions on Slavic forums by the way. Apparently names like 'Bogdan' and 'Biserka' have had their day. (Any name with 'Bog' is related to 'God', so far as I'm aware. 'Biserka' is a diminutive of 'Pearl'.)

At one point when we were picking baby names (for a pregnancy which didn't stick, unfortunately) I suggested "Marina" to my husband.

"No! It sounds like a place where people moor their yachts!"

ETA He also vetoed Anka.

LovesDMsanddogs · 28/01/2026 20:52

Archie, James and Jack are definitely on my list and perhaps Bertie. Girls list includes Isla and Jasmine. That said I there are some lovely James and Jack

Brummytobites · 28/01/2026 20:52

Every bodhi I know is “free spirited” little shit.

SassyCow · 28/01/2026 20:59

1 of my children's names has appeared a few times and I wholeheartedly agree, he's full on naughty. The rest of my children's name I don't think will be mentioned as they're so unusual.

Back in my day it was the Adams, Steven’s, Kelly’s, and Claire’s that were trouble!

I agree on Adam. I once looked after one after school to help his DM out and he was a nightmare! A counsellor I was seeing at the time said she also found all Adams to be hard work.

BooneyBeautiful · 28/01/2026 23:35

Calliopespa · 28/01/2026 11:50

😊

I have a distant relative with that name and I gather she was hard work, causing all sorts of problems! She was eventually diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but it took a while to get her on the right medication.

Where are people getting their opinions from? Have you all worked as teachers for years? Otherwise you probably know one kid so coupled with being snobby it’s just confirmation bias

Edited

Exactly. I know a lovely Kaiden, a wonderful Jaiden, a really sweet Mason. If we were doing names of lovely kdis, which never gets dien cos being mean is seemingly more fun, I'd put them on it.

mjhx · 28/01/2026 23:40

Personally I think them little Frankie's are menaces. My son is Frankie. He is a handful to say the least and he's 4. 😂🙈

In my experience (ex teacher), I sighed when I saw a class full of names like Kayden, Jayden, Hayden, Kyle, Finley, Ryan and (the worst) Harvey. Just realised they all have a Y in them???

Girls names that filled me with dread were Jade, Layla, Lea and Scarlet.

Wow I’m glad you’re not my children’s teacher! What an attitude to have.

NamingNoNames · 29/01/2026 10:45

@Whatthefork1 , Wow I’m glad you’re not my children’s teacher! What an attitude to have. It's not just teachers who have this attitude. Your name is your branding and it will have some effect on how they perceive the individual.
If you were looking for a new hair salon would you not have some preference for one called Hair Matters over one called Kra-Z-Kutz?

Teachers are human too.
It’s a natural, and very important, instinct to have experiences and learn from them.
She’s not saying she was horrible to them. Just that she was prepared for them.
