Hi everyone,
Our little girl was born on Thursday and we still don’t have a name!! We have a shortlist but I don’t know if they are just overdone and boring or if they are just classic, timeless options. Please can we have your opinions on our list and any others you think might suit!

Charlotte
Emma
Beatrix
Naomi

Thank you x

Timeless and all beautiful

LadyKenya · 24/01/2026 09:16

I don't know what a safe name means personally, but those names that you have shortlisted are all nice.

FewerOrLess · 24/01/2026 09:16

I particularly love Charlotte.

ParisianLady · 24/01/2026 09:17

All lovely names. I wouldn’t call them boring at all.

CremeEggsForBreakfast · 24/01/2026 09:19

They're definitely "safe" but not overdone or boring. They're classics for a reason.

I vote Naomi but that's because I'm a Naomi. Everyone has heard of my name but it's unusual to bump into another one (and the ones I do meet are all lovely). I've always loved my name.

Clementine12 · 24/01/2026 09:20

Naomi was our choice if we had a girl. Love it. I’m a teacher and currently teach two, but only one before I think. Lovely classic name but not too many around.

Charlotte again, classic but not too many. I love it shortened to Lottie.

I do find Emma a bit boring sorry.

Beatrix is fab and underused in my opinion. The only possible issue is that people might link it to Bellatrix like Harry Potter.

Reevester · 24/01/2026 09:22

Beatrix and Naomi are lovely, other 2 are safe and plain.

Needmorelego · 24/01/2026 09:24

All lovely names.
My favourite is Emma.

toomuchcrapeverywhere · 24/01/2026 09:24

Classic names, not safe, and all lovely.

MsMcCoo · 24/01/2026 09:26

This popped on active and I wondered what safe names are.

I really like Emma and Charlotte.
I am not from UK so big fan of simple names I can know how to spell instantly 😂
Big fan of classics like that. Funnily we had 3 Charlottes in a team at one point.

ThatshallotBaby · 24/01/2026 09:30

I love love Emma. You don’t meet many small Emma’s. Also love Beatrix.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 24/01/2026 09:30

Oh wow, this is highly unusual for mn, normal names. Good for you op!
Love Chatlotte
Congratulations btw x

AwfullyGood · 24/01/2026 09:39

I love Charlotte, Emma and Naomi.

Beatrix is one if my least favorite names ever.

Evaporateandlisten · 24/01/2026 09:40

Not keen on Naomi.

Beatrix is my favourite.

RueLepic · 24/01/2026 09:43

I think they’re the magnolia paint of names, but just as there’s a reason magnolia paint gets used a lot, there’s nothing at all wrong with them.

Furlane · 24/01/2026 09:45

Naming a child is such a personal choice, one person’s classic is another’s boring and dated. I think the names are inoffensive. Being an 80s child, they were very popular when I was growing up so I find them a bit dated, but that’s just my era. My least favourite is Charlotte, but I like Charlie and every Charlotte I know goes by Charlie.

ghostofchristmaspasta · 24/01/2026 09:46

Charlotte
Emma
Beatrix
Naomi

They are all simple and lovely with the exception of Emma which is nondescript and bleh to me.

Kepler22B · 24/01/2026 09:47

They are all lovely names. My favourite is Emma - not boring at all and as someone else said you don’t hear of many little Emmas.

Lottie is reasonable popular in my secondary school - but not to the point of it being ruled out.

Not as keen on Beatrix j(just personal preference),Naomi is solid but has 2 pronunciations so might have to correct that a bit.

Kepler22B · 24/01/2026 09:48

Sorry forgot to say congratulations on your little one!

user2848502016 · 24/01/2026 09:48

I love Emma, one of my favourite names!
It is classic and timeless but you don’t hear it often these days.

Charlotte is also lovely

Not as keen on Naomi and Beatrix although they’re not awful, and not boring.

TappyGilmore · 24/01/2026 09:51

I think they fall into two categories.

Charlotte and Emma, yes extremely overdone, I couldn’t consider either for that reason. (I know of a dance team in which three out of eight children are named Charlotte!)

Beatrix and Naomi, definitely less used but classic, lovely names. I think Beatrix in particular is very nice.

CreamEggsForever · 24/01/2026 09:52

Naomi is lovely

i like the others but they are perhaps overused.

Wakemeupinapril · 24/01/2026 09:52

Doesn't your dd deserve something with a bit more zing??

LauraHopkins · 24/01/2026 10:17

I love Emma! I only know of one little Emma so I think it’s a classic but not overly used today so she won’t have to suffer the indignity of a surname initial on her birthday cards in the early years of school. I’d call these names classic and timeless, rather than safe and boring.

DD’s classmates (and DD herself) mostly have what would be classed as magnolia / safe names so there’s not so many zingy kids to compare them to.

Names I particularly love in her year group are Eleanor, Iris and Margot.

IaltagDhubh · 24/01/2026 10:27

Definitely not Charlotte please! Can’t walk down the street for tripping over Charlottes. Common as muck and has been for years. I also absolutely loathe Lottie. Someone once asked me if people ever called me Lottie and I was deeply offended! I’d never heard it as a nickname before, but I remember thinking that I was 8, not 3, and I would never answer to such a silly babyish name!
It’s also a tricky one to pronounce, apparently, depending on local accents. You either replace the t with a glottal stop and sound a bit ‘rough’, or you pronounce the t and sound unbelievably posh. No middle ground. Ive gone by Charlie since I was about 11, mainly to avoid this.

Emma is lovely and classic, not boring at all, and everyone knows how to spell it.
Beatrix is nice, but I prefer Beatrice. I think the ix ending sounds too harsh.
Naomi is the best option. Classic, but not overused, the most interesting on your list.
