Nancy

flowerfairyy · 20/01/2026 09:05

Nancy, and no they don’t, it’s just embarrassingly grabby

LancashireButterPie · 20/01/2026 09:06

Oooooh both gorgeous.
Couldn't choose between them.

Egglio · 20/01/2026 09:06

Polly.

Nancy is too Stranger Things.

UninitendedShark · 20/01/2026 09:32

Nancy

IceCreamWoes · 20/01/2026 09:34

My daughter is called Nancy, so Polly 😂

Have a baby shower if you want one, but don't feel pressured by others (on either side)

BeefAndHorseradishSandwich · 20/01/2026 09:39

They’re both awful.

user2848502016 · 20/01/2026 09:45

I like Nancy

I don’t really like baby showers but would have thought a get together with no gifts was more appropriate for a second

Rainydayinlondon · 20/01/2026 10:03

Definitely Polly

GoldenRosebee · 20/01/2026 10:18

Nancy is lovely. I personally prefer fuller names to Polly rather than Polly on bc.

DramaAlpaca · 20/01/2026 10:19

Polly for sure.

stargirl27 · 20/01/2026 10:22

Pally

Ohdearwhatnow4 · 20/01/2026 10:25

I think Nancy goes better but neither would be my choice.
I also never had baby showers for any of my 4 as weren't really a thing.

HumerousHumous · 20/01/2026 10:27

They’re both nice! With Polly would you go with Pollyanna as a full name, but Polly day to day. Both really sweet.

I really love Nancy too so you are going to have a tricky decision!

highlandharpy · 20/01/2026 10:28

Like Frank Sinatra and Nancy Sinatra?
Polly.

Mosaic80 · 20/01/2026 10:30

Frank and Nancy is too Sinatra for me so I’d go with polly although it’s not my favourite due to knowing quite a few.

CrostaDiPizza · 20/01/2026 11:29

@Newmum1996 , I like both. I'd probably wait to see which one suits her best.

@HumerousHumous , With Polly would you go with Pollyanna as a full name? Pollyanna is awful.

@GoldenRosebee , Polly is from Mary and Nancy is from Anne. The names are fine as standalone names.
Famous ones:
Polly Toynbee - Wikipedia
Nancy Reagan - Wikipedia

Thistimearound · 20/01/2026 12:58

I like them both a lot.

I’m definitely a full name on the BC person (would never use Teddy, Evie etc as standalone names for example) but I think Nancy and Polly would easily be standalone names these days.

CannotBeInterestedInYourDrama · 20/01/2026 13:00

Both terrible names

user1492757084 · 20/01/2026 13:28

Frank and Polly.

Other ideas..
Mary
Sally
Sarah

yikesanotherbooboo · 20/01/2026 13:55

I like both names but know quite a few Nancys ( mainly over 5) so might plump for Polly. It is true that the ‘full / correct’ names would be Ann or Mary but I think they are well enough used as stand alone names for it not to matter. A pp mentioned Sally to which I would add Sadie and which similarly are the recognised nick names for Sarah but can be used as stand alones quite easily.

FourChimneys · 20/01/2026 14:09

I prefer Polly. All the ones I have know have been happy and lovely people.

It makes me want to hum Polly-Wolly-Doodle but that is not necessarily a disadvantage.

CrostaDiPizza · 20/01/2026 14:55

also do people have baby showers for their second? I definitely am not as bothered second time round but everybody thinks I’m crazy for not!?
Up to you whether or not you have one, but there's usually a lot less fuss over the baby/baby shower if it's not your PFB.

CrostaDiPizza · 20/01/2026 15:11

I probably currently prefer Nancy but if I'd been asked 10, 20 or 30 years ago, I'd have said Polly, so I'll pick Polly.

amy480 · 20/01/2026 19:41

Both nice but I prefer Polly.

As for baby shower for number 2, I didn’t have one but I did have a lunch at home with a small group of friends, low key but lovely. I’d only had a baby shower a few years prior for my first so felt a bit OTT and self indulgent to have another but each to their own!
