Scottish with two very Scottish surnames - middle name would be Alexander!

Douglas!. My family called your penis your Dougal growing up, so that would really put me off!.

Please do not call your child Dougal. That’s got to be a typo ?

No typo 🤣

Douglas is nice.

Dougal is a dog!

Pinkissmart · 07/01/2026 18:22

Both awful

Both awful

Way to go crapping on a Gaelic name, centuries old, and therefore steeped in many Scottish people’s family history. She asked for opinions on which one…if you don’t have anything helpful to say then move on 🙄

OP: Douglas is a lovely, strong name choice, and Dougie is cute. Congrats on your baby boy x

Douglas reminds me of a staid old man who is serious and respectable, perhaps a bit dull, and set in his ways. His wife is named Matilda or Ethel; they have porridge for breakfast, crumpets for tea and constantly complain about the weather. They never turn on the heating in order to save money and drive an old banger.

MummaR94 · 07/01/2026 21:17

Douglas 100% classic timeless name

OhFeyreDarling · 07/01/2026 21:23

I live in a Douglas (place obviously) and love it so gets my vote

Dougal will never not be said in my head with an Irish accent picturing Ardal O'Hanlan

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/01/2026 21:57

Douglas! Dougie is a super cool
nn!

WulfWulfBeare · 07/01/2026 22:32

I imagine Dougal to be a proud, Scottist nationalist. He’s married to Fiona who he met whilst dancing the Highland fling. They have three sons named Tully, Murdoch and Alastair. He’s a fine swordsman and knows Robert Burns’s poems from heart. If he is ever mistakenly called Douglas, he becomes offended because the name is too English for him.

Dougal is more interesting than Douglas. I would go for Dougal.

WinterWooliesBaa · 07/01/2026 22:38

I prefer Dougal, but my first thought is Tge Naguc Riundabout. But that's because I'm 56! It won't be for young people. Dougie is adorable x

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 07/01/2026 22:41

I prefer Dougal

Myfridgeiscool · 07/01/2026 22:41

Douglas is a fine name OP. It gets my vote.
Douglas Alexander is a great name.

HEC2746 · 07/01/2026 22:49

We have a Douglas. Called Dougie or Doug most of the time, unless he’s being a little shit. Old family name that I wasn’t 100% on really before he was born but it suits him and so far no one has ever said anything negative. Well apart from when you introduce a tiny one week old baby as Douglas, which felt like a hell of a mouthful back then.

zebrastripesarefun · 07/01/2026 22:50

I prefer Douglas. Douglas Alexander is a good strong name

DustlandFairytaleBeginning · 07/01/2026 22:52

Douglas. Dougal is our dog's name- and it's a pretty common one too, we meet loads of namesake pets in the park. I've never met a human Dougal 😂

Pettenell · 07/01/2026 23:23

Both great names, but I prefer Douglas.

Giraffehaver · 07/01/2026 23:44

Douglas is such a strong name. Love it

Hollyhobbi · 07/01/2026 23:48

I can only think of Fr. Dougal McGuire and the dog in the Magic Roundabout! I'm mid 50s.

LivingTheDreamish · 08/01/2026 01:47

Douglas is lovely

Dougal has too many comedic links to be taken seriously.

FunnyOrca · 08/01/2026 09:01

I vote Dougal! I actually think feels more modern than Douglas. I know a Dougal and he’s a lovely child. Also, if you are going to call him Dougie, at least the name and nickname vowel sounds match.

RoseApp · 08/01/2026 10:01

I know a wonderful Dougal who is hugely popular with lots of friends and is very successful. He reckoned his name helped him.

Douglas is a bit old man and doesn’t stand out much

abracabarbara · 08/01/2026 10:10

Good strong names.
And what about Dugald?

user1492757084 · 08/01/2026 10:31

I like them both. Dougal is my choice or something else ..
